#38....was told he had his jumper presented to him by Brad Shine. Well done to the young man I remember as the little ferret with the mullet on his league debut.

Imagine getting your 1st SD League jumper presented to you by none other than the great man himself Brad 'Bulldog' Shine DW ..I would have been ready to run through brick walls like the great man did weekly for the Mighty Black & Whites.
Brad was there yesterday with the 1990 Premiership side and it was fantastic to see the likes of Bulldog, Micky Grasso, Retzy et al at the game reminiscing.

I have been away for the past week so I was not able to get to the game yesterday unfortunately. I was delighted when I saw the final score online. From reading the comments on here it sounds like it was a very tight physical struggle all day with never more than a kick or two in it.

I know that statistics can sometimes lie but when I looked at the key indicators of the match I was just gob smacked that Swans actually won this game. East Perth had 72 more possessions than Swans and 27 more inside 50’s. Then again there is nowhere on a statistics sheet that measures desperation and commitment to a cause, which Swans obviously had by the bucketful yesterday. We had 25 more tackles than the opposition which indicates that we were good defensively which would have been a major factor in the victory without doubt.

This was an outstanding win by the boys given that the opposition were stacked with Eagles players. It was our first victory over East Perth since 2012, breaking a run of 7 consecutive losses to them. It also has put Swans right in the mix for a top 5 spot.

I would suggest that 10 wins and a reasonable percentage would get you into 5th in such an even season. So after the bye, Swans would need to win 3 out of their last 6 games to make it. This is certainly very achievable, even though there are some tough games ahead. We have West Perth, Subiaco and Claremont at home and Claremont, Peel and West Perth away, so it won’t be easy, but if Swans can bring the same attitude to the coming games as they obviously had yesterday, they certainly can do it.

A good thing that Harding has done this year as opposed to 2014 is that he has introduced the young players gradually at different stages of the season and dropped them back when they have needed a break. He is constantly refreshing the team with the talented colts players .

This will have the effect of keeping everyone on their toes and creating genuine competition for spots in the team but I reckon it will also reduce the chance of a repeat of last year where the team became tired and jaded in the last third of the season and their performances fell away dramatically. I think if Swans manage to make the finals this year they will be much more primed for it.

Another factor that is also coming into play is the prospect that all 3 teams at the club could participate in the finals series. I don’t think that this would have happened too many times in the clubs history and it would be wonderful if this took place. The feeling around the club would be just great if all players were involved. The Reserves and Colts are well on the way to achieving this goal so its a matter of the league guys following suit.

Hopefully after the bye a few injured guys will return to bolster the team, namely Elari, Ugle and maybe even Simmo and Blight down the track, so this will add to the strength of the team. Dylan Nelson responded well to his setback so I see, he must come into consideration as well after the bye.

All in all it is promising to be an enjoyable back end to the season for Swannies fans!

mikeh - it was a strange game, despite East Perth dominating the stats Swans were always in the game due to the pressure they put on which forced the Eagles to bomb it forward a lot and Notte gave their key forwards a bath and cut off so many attacks.
Swans hit the post 3 times in the 1st half including Swooper from 10 metres out so we had our chances to get scoreboard pressure.
the move of Ames into the ruck and 3rd man up at times did rattle the Eagles, the 2 goals he got were from being taken out in the ruck as both times Blakely wasnt there and the Eagles blocked him out the way without realising Ames was the ruckman as Blakely was a kick behind the play, Johnson also gave a way a double 50 after one of those free kicks.
Notte, Riggio, Davis, Faulkner all very good and Ansey and Wilson showed glimpses of quality.
Houghton also played a decent game and worked hard when the game was on the line.
well done to no.3 from East Perth, only a little bloke but shut Jukesy out of the game.
no Jack Darling made a difference this time !

It was actually Jokely-Nicholls that gave away the double 50m MO.
He was swearing his head off at the umpire with language that would make a bikie blush and Johnson, Moss & co were telling him to shut his mouth and go away but he just kept at it.
The surprising thing was the umpire actually took awhile to give the 2nd 50m which was only actually 10m as it took him to the goal line despite a constant stream of abuse!

thanks for that BH, proved rather costly in the end !
East Perth are such a joke of a club, an eagles blokes kicks a goal and all these East Perth blokes run up and try to boof him, must be fun every week knowing that your only chance of winning a game is hanging on some bloke who has nothing to do with your club.
Murray Newman needs to pull his head in, running around trying to whack blokes and Davis taught him a lesson in the middle of the ground, at least Bennell played against his old team mates in the right spirit and had a smile and pats on the backs for his old mates.

No surprises there as JB is a quality bloke.
It's a pity Muzz doesn't ply his Houdini act whenever he plays against the side that gave him his chance!

Yes, if you don't have respect within your peers, it renders everything pointless. Having an opposition hate you is fine, but when you cannot defend yourself based on the circumstances, well that's the cherry to top it all off.

Amid the $450k, the free coach and the access to every available Eagles players, they can shove all of that up their arses. I thank them for nothing.

Well done Swans, a fine gutsy win.

agree MO...I couldn't imagine playing for a club you don't give a chit about. the weagles blokes are just playing for themselves and probably couldn't care less about the result...more they only want to do enough to get noticed but not get injured at the same time. what a joke.
