BH - a lot of those blokes are working away this year, Warwick is up in Hedland.
Hackett was at the club pre Covid and i dont think is playing anywhere so maybe working away or injured.

Some positives from Swans point of view

1. Cory Gault dominated the ruck and competed well around the ground.
2. Fisher and Anderson are very good players and slotted in well to the Swans midfield
3. The defence worked well as a group. West Perth had a lot more inside 50's than us so they did well to restrict them to 8 goals. There was some good contested marks taken particularly by Howie and Erceg.
4. Jesse Turner busted his guts out like he does in every match.
5. I liked Aiden Clarkes endeavour despite his blooper in the last quarter.

With games against Claremont, Subiaco and South Fremantle in the next 3 rounds, the players have an opportunity to test themselves against the best teams in the competition. Surely the coaches can tweak the defensive game plan and encourage the players to express themselves a bit more and try and get some decent scores on the board. Station a Notte or Noble in the forward 50 and back them to take a contested mark. Nothing to lose really.

Yes I agree Mike on your points above.
1. Corey is in the best 3 rucks in the WAFL in my books.
2. Frank & Sam look like our best recruits in 10 years on a small sample size so far.
3. We have the nucleus of a decent backline in Howie, Erc, Clarkey, Stevo, Beck, More (who didnt play at all on the weekend for some reason), Italiano, Hughes & young Denver G-B etc and lets face it they will be getting a decent old workout in the next few games but for mine we have focused too much on our defence in the last 9 years and not enough on our forward line which is probably why we cant hit the scoreboard
4. Jesse is a future leader of the club in my books, I would bring him into the leadership group
5. It is good to see Clarkey getting a crack at it now hopefully he can become a regular in the League side.

MO I am not sure why we didnt look at swapping Waite & Garcia around at least in the last qtr as Waite does have that pace that would suit getting in behind the defence whilst Garcia has played the small defender role before, mind you we only had 4 Inside 50s in the last qtr apparently.

For Marleys sake the only thing I am not happy about is our inability to hit the scoreboard which has been an issue for many years now, I would have hoped in this short season we would have come with an all out attack strategy/philosophy/game plan but the first half score of 1.1 said it all in that regard really unfortunately! Also talk of being in a rebuild is complete nonsense for mine. I remember going back to Hardings last few years we were apparently rebuilding back then but it is just a copout. You never see the likes of Subi, SF, CL or more pertinent EP & WP who are clubs in a similar position to us ever "in a rebuild" if you are picked in a League team at WAFL level you should be good enough to play and ready to go, that is one of the problems with Swans we always use the he's young or inexperienced copout to save face for our continual failures!

G. Wilson and Hinder were state 18’s players 2 years ago. Sad that they still aren’t at the club and I think that’s currently a massive issue! It’s mostly get drafted or bust with our most talented players, they aren’t becoming our next big hit and they also aren’t returning from AFL wanting to help the cause with any desire or passion!

I can understand the frustrations here - we went through a devastating period straight after the departure of John Dimmer and in the space of 18 months we lost 1 & 1/2 league sides' worth of very good players
The club appointed an ex-AFL player not long out of the game and made a deliberate bold decision to blood our youth squad while recruiting a small batch of experience to assist that process
The coach wasn't particularly great at times and had AFL style game plans that the tyros just couldn't handle we suffered bad losses with some good wins at times and it was bloody hard to endure
BUT , and here is the but - it has ended up being the better thing in a long long run

Stick with the good young blokes at Basso , the Farrants , Nobles , Ercegs , Italianos , Germs etc will thrive and it may well be under another coach , but stick with them

All I got to say

Yeah I know, D.Smith was going to be a near certainty to be drafted back a few years ago as well but they dont get drafted and instead of knuckling down and giving it a red hot go at WAFL level to prove their worth they just drift away and go play ammos or country instead.
You would think with the recent examples of SD boys like Broad (2 x AFL Premiership player now), Davis, Boekhorst, Hughes, Lobb etc these guys that were all picked up as mature age picks after playing a bit of senior footy and showing their worth against men and putting in some hard yards at WAFL level for a time that they would stick at it but unfortunately it doesnt seem to be the case anymore sadly.

Problem is that the good young blokes aren’t hanging around! The ones that are aren’t going to be quality WAFL footballers!
