We played them 5 times that year and really didn't get that close to beating them but did the job on the day, even a bomb threat failed to clear our new clubrooms after the game. I'm so fortunate to have been around during these times, '73 was the 1st of 8 premierships I've been priviledged to see, 7 of then with my young bloke tagging along, just wonderful. 86 was 2nd favourite as we had come from the depths of financial despair a few years before and beat an big strong EF team chock full of talent that were the hottest of hot favourites and in the end they didn't take us seriously due to massive over confidence after destroying us in the 2nd semi with Bennet kicking 11. 3rd favourite was this one, once again overcoming great odds to get over the line for a memorable win. Now lets see if we can raise the bar again next year as I think the ferals will come back to the field (unless the WAFC shift the goal posts again), Claremont and Souths will be the big movers and expect Swans to have a more even season with some of those terrific colts adding great depth for them, Joondy wont be that bad 2 years in a row plus EF will be there about's as well, so a much more even comp lets hope, with the final 4 (5?) being decided on the last round.

I was a kid in 73. my old man was as tough as nails and had tears streaming down his face without actually making a sound wen the siren went. I thought he was in pain but in actual fact, the pain of not winning a g f for 49 years had just subsided. this year was pretty special as well against the odds.

However given a strong case can be made that the biggest winners financially since the inception of AFL clubs in this state is the Subiaco Football Club, IMO it's a bit rich to complain when another WAFL club responds to an invitation from an AFL club (along with 4 other WAFL clubs) to receive mutual benefits through an alignment. Not to mention the financial benefits Subiaco received from this deal.

No money for Twomey, Hilda, Boland = no grand final tomorrow IMO.

Regardless good luck for tomorrow. I hope you all go to the game and its ends up being a ripping GF whatever the result.

PS. Please not too much abuse re my post, after nearly 2 years of it I don't think I'll be able to cope ;)

C/v whilst I accept what you say about Subi's financial advantage the big difference is that there was still a chance to compete against Subi with repect to the players. However, with respect to "East Perth" the advantages are so significant: full time professional versus part time footballer players; greater coaching; recovery and rehabilitation; and IT infrastructure etc.

Swan42, it's always best to try and give a balanced view. You have listed the pros but not the cons. I'm not going to waste my time listing the cons other than say, if you take Subiaco out of it and asked the other 8 clubs if they would prefer Subiaco's AFL revenue streams or be in an alignment situation I guarantee you the vote would be 8-0 in favour of Subiaco's AFL revenue streams.

If "the advantages are so significant" how do you explain Peels performance when they averaged an additional 4 AFL listed "full time professional" players per game?

CV Peel's performances can be summed up quite simply: the Fremantle Docker's attitude was one that the result was not of any import and some of the aligned playes did not want to be there; hence their results. With respect to "East PErth" it is also very simple: you take out the bottom half of the legitimate East Perth league team and replace it with full time professional footballers. QED.

Last year East Perth had a few WCE players that complimented their own players. They only really had to carry Morton.

This year they had 4,5 or 6 they had to carry and we beat them easily. Plus remember they didn't have to carry another half dozen WCE youngsters who were injured.

Another off season of no recruiting, more young or useless WCE players and their own depth leaving and East Perth won't make the finals at all in 2015.

If the alignment is still on in 2016 Perth will be the only side that Peel and East Perth can beat if they are lucky.

Early reports is that Peel expect to lose 11 reserve & league players minimum from this years roster with up to 15 expected to move on at this stage....don't shoot messenger here, just passing on information what I heard yesterday from someone in the know...not that anyone really cares right :pinch:

Unfortunately I have bought the clubs DVDs before and they are terrible quality. ABC has proper 2 disc ones for $55
