AFL clubs haven't really looked hard at Subi over the years unless it's someone outstanding like Danny Rich or Liam Ryan, they tend to look first at CL, EF, SFand SD. At this stage I dont think there are too many who will come under the notice of the AFL scouts, but with the recent success of the Futures programme and the strong Colts and Ressies we should have plenty coming through and where there are gaps, like in the ruck currently, we can recruit. Guys like Kitch, Heal, Gus & Lockyer are closing in on retirement so we need to see what we have at hand to fill these upcoming vacancies.

The problem is that we risk becoming a breeding ground for the AFL just like EF have been for many years and we don't get any return on investment as they're taken as soon as they become eligible. Members, sponsors, supporters want to see success in terms of premierships, not numbers playing at the next level. A tough balancing act for sure.

That there is the problem BC. All sad to say the Wafl nowadays is seen as being just a bloody nursery! Many teams players do stick around very long. they seem to move elsewhere quickly.

Cheers, remind me who the full forward and full back are? The ruckman is from Esperance right?

And what's happened to my man, Mullane? a good Warwick Greenwood boy.

Kentfield is a 17yo from Carine. Decent size though at 194cm and 90 odd kg but jeez, he'd just about need his mum to drive him to the game. Berenger is from Frankston so hopefully they've unearthed another diamond in the rough from Victoria.

Thanks BC for that info
We know as per previous chat on here that Mayo "may" start the season (if not shortly after) and Lockyer won't be ready until about mid-season, but.I notice on this week's  playing list there's no sign of Stainsby, Stergiou, Borchet, Vanirsen, Braut, Eaton or Matthews.
Given the club and WAFL injury site is as good as useless does anyone have any news about those missing players?

the young fellas melded well with the older crew. it was 2.3 to 2.3 at qtr time. second and third quarters the boys ripped
definite positive vibes around the group with 4-5 senior guys out. stainer out till round 3...lockyer could still be 2 months away apparently. mayo still a few weeks...braut borchett unsure. there is genuine competition for spots. there were 9 ressy premiership players yday and they all did well. south ash robbins golding were good...conor faraone was BOG in my view...played a ripper! write us off at your peril.

Thanks Coogee, interested to hear how Berenger went and what sort of a player he is, haven’t been able to get to either of the first two preseason games due to work but will have a look next week hopefully.
All positive so far and may it continue!
