They did mention Erasmus and Johnson though. They are Subi players.

About the best we can ask for then?

WAgenknect was 55...and kicked 2 goals. Ressies score not correct. Peel won the ressies...cant remember the score but i think it was about 10 goals to 6?

Thanks Coogee, promising start for the youngster then.

I believe we have a couple of big solid indigenous boys who have a lot of mongrel in them, cousins Bartlett and Nevill, Bartlett likened to basil campbell. These are the type of guys that imo we need to be given a go and a good run at it, blokes that put fear into the opposition. Robbins apparently has put on a bit of size and also falls into the above category, as does the returning Hayden from the afl. Add Braut, Kitchen and a bigger Snadden to that angry list. Or are we going to persist with guys who might not be up to it and no mongrel in them? Time will tell

Your right DG, every successful team has had a few enforcers, Swans 82-84 team had several lead by big Ronny Boucher and the Solins, Sf had Bazz Campbell and Golden gloves Vigona, Even Cl had a few, Mossy was a great enforcer, always got away with it to. But those guys could play, for us guys like Braut can put the fear of god into opposition players but is also a very good player. Hayden seems to be in that mould as well, a ferocious tackler by all reports, players that run straight at the footy whoever's in the way.

I just hope the coach and selection committee play the younger guys this year...and more importantly, give them a decent block of games to feel settled. Not just 1-2 games and then change (I know this has been mentioned in previous seasons but it needs to be enacted). Give them the confidence that they belong and they are backing them.

Agree Coogee, this season and next should be about getting games into the younger group as the senior players are nearing the end of their careers. We wont be in a premiership window for a few years yet, so lets see what we can get out of the young blokes. Would be nice to make finals which I think we are capable of if the group stays fit, but it's time to build the list with the youngsters. We have had 3 years of undefeated teams in the futures so these kids along with last years colts and ressies should put us in good stead going forward.

It's a tricky balancing act. If you don't play your best players, you'll lose them. And supporters want to see the club's best attempt every week.

But what is best for long term game? What is fair to a player who's done the preseason and committed to subi for 2023? You need to have these conversations before the year starts.

The problem is that we risk becoming a breeding ground for the AFL just like EF have been for many years and we don't get any return on investment as they're taken as soon as they become eligible. Members, sponsors, supporters want to see success in terms of premierships, not numbers playing at the next level. A tough balancing act for sure.
