Given the government has always reported there has been no community spread and our state and international borders are closed and anyone returning has to go into forced isolation, is there any reason for these extreme isolation rules and measures?

I think it's way over the top and I've witnessed and experienced paranoia in the community. These measures have to be weighed up against the cost of mental health and the economy. I think fair enough keep the borders closed and maintain the forced isolation laws for those returning from overseas and interstate but let's get back to work and back to living within our own borders.

I think we will having a gradual step up in WA over the next couple of weeks.

I see no reason why cafes and pubs cant re open in a couple of weeks with some crowd number limits.

Also I reckon in May we should be able to get the WAFL up and running.

the WAFL wont be able to start until the AFL release some funding, and that cant happen until they work out their fixtures and TV revenue model.

DD...Take your Trump and Pence t-shirt off mate. I don't think governments at state and/or federal level have been over cautious at all. It's only been in the last week or so that we've seen single digit increases in cases in WA and now that the stinking cruise ships have all pissed off, we might start to see a gradual lifting of restrictions as Baz alluded to. I don't think it's financially viable for WAFL clubs to play to empty grand stands so until crowd limits are lifted I can't see anything happening for a couple of months yet.

Yep, I certainly would not advocate a WAFL return until we could allow say 2000 mas at grounds with some spacing.

Are we over cautious? Well lets look at the latest figures I could find.

As of today in Australia:
total cases - 6,600
Total recovered - 4,230
Total deaths - 71

Compare that to the USA:
Total cases - 764,177
Total recovered - 70,172
Total deaths - 40,591

Now the USA has a population 13 times that of Australia so when you times our figures by 13 you get the following:

Cases - 85,800
recovered - 54,990
deaths - 910

So you can see that Australia by comparison with the land of the Orange bloated one is doing it so much better. We'd all like the restrictions un-tightened but doing it too early will only result in the virus taking a 2nd hold and it will be far worse. Unlike the USA our federal and state governments and the population have taken it seriously with the result that we are well on the way to containing it and the chances of a sustained long term recovery are so much better, act too quickly and all the good work will be undone.

Just yesterday Trump was saying that the USA has handled the virus better than anyone else, perhaps barring Germany, who the phark does this bloke think he's kidding with these patent lies and fake news announcements.
