As much as I hate Freo anchor you're right-it's game 1 of the season ffs! How can you write any team off this early? I just watched the Eagles game and how rusty were they??? Didn't get a lot of confidence out of that. I do think tho, if the little shit ballantyne doesn't pick up, then he's becoming a spud.

Yep a lot of overreaction from one game i remember Freo being eighty points up at halftime against the Eagles and they ended up making the GF.

Thing is Freo have been going slowly downward IMHO since about halfway thru last season, so its NOT just game 1 this season.

Yeah well I'm prepared to give them more than one game I wouldn't be righting them off just yet, and if It looks like Freo needs to rebuild so be it I havnt seen any proof that Lyon can't do this, people seem to forget he didn't get the chance at the Saints because they farrked around extending his contract and that's when Freo swooped, so there is no proof that he can't devolop or rebuild a side.

Not how i see it, he burnt the Saints out, and plugged holes with players like Peake, Polo, Pattison, Dawson, Farren raye Lovett Murray ( gave up pick 15) and a broken down smith (i think) who other clubs steered clear of etc ignoring any younng talent in the draft at the time. Is there ONE player Lyon developed at the Saints?. Lyon is like Micky Malhouse, stubbon and one dimensional.

I guess we will see the saints played finals in his last year so no rebuild had started yet,Chris Scott and Longmire both inherited ready made lists I havnt really seen them devolop any players yet.

Im not necessarily a scott fan ( even though im a cats supporter) BUT Guthrie, Gregson, Thurlow, ( with possibly Lang, Mc Carthey and Vardy) for the Cats, I think Longmire has even more as well. Saints played finals YES, but they were on the downward spiral anyway, and left the list in tatters. Unless Lyon can win a flag i dont rate him that highly.

Today was not good I agree, but Freo will win most of their homes games this season and enough away wins and therefore make the 8. But in all honestly we are making up the numbers. Yes Sandi, Johnson & Bennell will change things but it wont be enough to compete with the classier sides like Hawthorn, WB & WC I'm afraid. Like others have said and I agree...the writing was on the wall late last season and I saw it in the pre season as well - we haven't improved!!!

Our backline is average and not skilled enough. Our forward line doesn't have a young Pav anymore to kick 50+ goals. I saw the writing on the wall last season from Pav's performances and he should have retired. Taberner needs to come good quickly but I think he's too soft and doesn't have that killer instinct to go to the next level. We will be too reliant on Walters & Balla to kick our goals. We will still struggle to kick winning scores and that will contribute to our downfall I'm afraid. Our midfield is A grade (unfortunately not today) but that is about it.

Did I hear correctly we were the 2nd oldest team on the weekend??? That in itself should mean Rosco needs to start replacing players now as there are too many B graders going backwards for mine.

Only my opinion but sometimes you need to take the blinkers off. Hope I'm wrong but I just cant see us being a genuine contender this year.

What's more concerning for the dockers is if the story about the leadership vote is true. Club officials trying to manipulate fyfe as captain when the players wanted mundy? Breaking the trust of the group would cause unrest.

He has proved zip, they were a possible premiership team 2-3 years ago, just couldn't get their shit together.
Mediocre management again by the dockers, would love to know what the plan is? Tread water for 12 months, lure a key forward then try for a premiership?
