"West Perth" sounds much better than "Joondalup", as the name of a football team. You can't buy history or tradition. The advantages of a name change would have to be very big to outweigh these disadvantages.
You don’t get it either, with your mentality the Sydney Swans would still be South Melbourne and the Joondalup cricket club would still be North Perth, when you willingly abandon your home ground and more importantly your heartland and”JUNIOR ZONES,tradition gets thrown out the window.

Disagree. I see your point. But, it's not that simple.

South Melbourne could hardly be called that in Sydney. The move was much bigger.  West Perth is compatible with their location.

Sydney swans sounds a lot better than joondalup. No disrespect to the the suburb.

North Perth cricket club, again with all due respect, were not as significant as West Perthin the context of Wa footy.

Well the fact that it’s been an on going debate, and the fact your local council is reticent to sponsor you because your club name is not reflective of the community where you reside and draw your players from, then it’s a issue that will never go away, until you properly merge the old history and the new era together.

How is West Perth compatible with their location, have you seen the Metro map JL???and besides inner city WEST PERTH is now an EPFC junior zone.how can you persist calling yourself after an area that belongs to your arch rivals???

West Perth is a name for the west side of Perth.

I agree on your big point. Not sure how best to do that, though. combine the two, that is.

Actually, I'm a Subi supporter. I just like the old Wafl names. I don't actually like "falcons". Prefer Cardinals. Thank God east Perth are still the royals.
When I quote you, I reply in your comment. How do you get around that?

The title of the topic is the answer to that question JL,but you would have to agree that WAFL is unfortunately not in the hearts and minds of most of the general populace, and dreaming of playing for a WAFL club is just an afterthought today if a kid doesn’t achieve his dream of playing in the AFL.

By that logic then Subiaco should rename themselves to the Leederville Lions - haven’t been in Subiaco for 20 years, Subiaco JFC is in the Claremont District and their own junior zone is much further north.

Should EP be renamed because they are now north of Perth  and Perth should embrace their location too - maybe a change to the Lathlain Lemmings. Though they have put their supporters through hell for 40 years so maybe demons is apt.

Subi as well as ourselves are a stones throw from our old locations,as well as the fact we’ve retained our old 70 year old Junior clubs which we are still loyal to,but TT your Revo fitness and apartment estate club, are quite welcome to continue to squandering the prime recruiting advantages that have been availed to yourclub, college boy.

I agree with College boy. Quite funny. In fairness to Revo stadium, Claremont and the PSA are just about the heart of WA footy these days.
