I don’t know why you mob keep skirting around the naming issue. Just call yourself West Perth Football Club trading as the Joondalup Falcons. You will be called by media and by the WAFL as the Joondalup Falcons but you can still chant West Perth……

DD I’ll state from the start I am a tradionalist but agree that a name change is inevitable. When that will occur I don’t know but it will be sooner rather than later.The two things I got from the article were 1) the City of Joondalup West Perth Falcons is too much of a mouthful.A thought has to be put into things like fixtures,newspaper articles,ladder position posts and a myriad of other things and there’s no way those items will include 6 words.My suggestion is West Perth Falcons Joondalup- that way the first 2 words are West Perth which should satisfy the diehards.2) the sponsorship is too low.8 years ago it was $10K more and yes I know it is harder to get sponsorship money at all today but since we are dealing with asking a 138 year old institution to start a new chapter in its history I thought that might be worth a little more.These days any club should be thankful for anything- economic reality I guess.

Yep sounds messy Feds and I agree 30k is a bit light but it's a start. Maybe if West Perth take a leap of faith and go with my suggestion then the "City of Joondalup" might kick in more and others might too.

Do you remember my team was once sponsored by Home Building Society and we were called the Home Demons. That was a jumper naming rights and maybe ground as well. Before that our ground was called Eftel Oval.

You accept the money to rename the stadium Pentanet. Do you get all of that or has Venues West got their filthy paws all over it?

I’m pretty sure DD that we get the lion’s share of the Pentanet sponsorship with the jumper advertising but I think I’m fairly right in that we don’t have much control on the naming rights - that’s the VW domain.I’m sure they get a good whack out of it.Maybe Winger or another of the WP boys know some more.

The club did change the name, I have a badge to prove it, it was disaster and the following year it was West Perth. All the bods I hand around with will walk away from the club with their sponsorship, me , ill stick with them.

Funny how the club at the last AGM didn't mention the night fixtures that were released in the paper a week after the AGM and a proposed name change to pick up doe from the council.

Winger if your club leaves it until all the diehards that object to a name change are gone, there might not be any WP supporters left to sell it to. I bet there was plenty who threatened to walk away when you left Leederville and changed your moniker from the Cardies to the Falcons. Evolution. 

On the night games issue. WP v P was listed as Friday night 5th April starting at 7.00pm.
It is now showing as a twilight game on Saturday starting at 4.00pm. The colts playing after that.

 

Weird isn’t it Winger how people react to situations.Supporters like you who bleed red and blue stick with the club through anything even though they may not be 100 % convinced in this case that a name change is necessarily the best thing.Why is this?Because we want the club to survive.Why did we move from Leederville - because we would have been well and truly dead and buried by now.It was a matter of survival.If the “bods” you hang around with want to leave and take their money with them - whether it’s sponsorship or just membership well that’s their choice but how that’s going to help our survival I don’t know.And they’re doing this because we add the word Joondalup somewhere?I will admit when the name change was mooted a few years ago I was against it - tradition and all that.But thinking more about it adding to the name didn’t change the history,the memories or the achievements.The club and all players,friends I’ve made,going through the good times and just as many bad,everything involved with the club  - I personally can’t let that just die because of a piddling slight name alteration.I hope your bods are passionate enough to see there is more to this than just a word or two in a name.

A piddling slight name change, you obviously know a lot more that you’re letting on. Adding the word Joondalup somewhere, you’re not playing hypothetical, you know a lot more. BTW, the bods I hang around with have put loads of doe into the club and they have a right to object. The club is not going to die for the sake of 30 grand from the council, we haven’t had council sponsorship for over ten years. Feds, you’re selling a product, hit me don’t shit me. Hot Summers, cold winters, sales will be down because of the night game fixtures. I suppose 30Gs from the council will elevate the sales to make the figures look good. So Feds my boy, where will the name Joondalup be imbedded, I’m sure you know a hell of a lot more Albert.
