Whole thing has been a dogs breakfast. Earl is all the club had, he knows that and we know it. Laughable that theysack a coach and then know one in Australia wants the gig

Hey all, Have been given some mixed info. The assistant coach is NOT Maskos but I have now been told it is Mark Foster, colts coach at East Freo. Seems Maskos was approached but South's upped his remuneration to stay. Either way, I am more than happy to have Foster as he is another with a great reputation in developing juniors and East Freo have had more AFL draftees than most WAFL clubs. My boys who have been part of the colts & development squads over past few years, also say that Foster is very well respected amongst the youngsters & knows what he is talking about

This also seems to be the reason for the delay in the appointment of Earl as he was very particular in grabbing one of these guys knowing their strengths with juniors. Earl could have been announced a few weeks back but we wanted to get the good news done in buckets rather than dribbles.

People can criticise the appointment but he is a proven AFL player at one of the biggest & Proudest clubs in the AFL. He also made his mark in the AFL days when it was at his toughest and has been involved in AFL assistant capacities for some time and with some very good experienced AFL coaches. He also has Perth blood through & through, as has most of his family. For those that know the big Duke, he is a straight shooter and very driven. Rather than be critical regarding his appointment in lieu of superman or God, i think this is a very good positive.

Again sorry for the wrong info initially.

You are joking surely, where is it proven that Foster is a great developer with a proven reputation? Finished 5th in 2013 and 8th in 2014. Most of East Freo's drafted players in recent years would have been drafted no matter who they played for.

Laughable comment
What did he do when he returned from Victoria?
Return to his club of origin, who as usual were struggling
No he pissed off to Moss street
His VFL AFL career is without question
His coaching prowess is another matter
East Freo friends off mine couldn't wait to see the back off him when he was given the arse
If he is indeed the new Perth coach, it's a sad indictment on what others think of the club
Then again have a look at the blonks running the joint
Pendal, Atkins and Co, ffs

It may be laughable and disappointing but the past is the past, a long time ago. If youwwant to blame anyone blame his brother for moving as Perth captain wasn't he, for EF. Thats why he went to EF when his AFL career finished and he played all his junior football in the EF district. The Spaldings came to Perth under the father son rule and George was Perth president at the time.

The way I see we had few options and it is new blood, he wouldn't have any affinity with the current player group or coaches, though Marty is a former Wesley coach. I only hope the club hasn't got sucked in to offering a 3 year contract straight up. But it would not surprise me one bit if they have.

Snake went to Wesley Colledge in his junior days.

Not sure but did they play for Manning,Smokey may be able to confirm?

There are brothers out there that play on opposing teams,Earl at the time was offered a contract to play for Perth!

If my memory serves me correct the excuse/reason Scott gave at the time for moving to East Freo was because he lived down that way and was close to Moss Street.
Im pretty sure thats spot on
Maybe i should go barrack for South Freo because i live only 10 minutes from Freo oval.

Some supporters will be rapt with Snakes appointment ...im not one of them and the fact that he got it may have been because "no-one else" wanted it makes no difference to me.

AS far as Superman or God getting the appointment...I doubt that Darren Harris would view himself as either of those super heros, yep i konw he was one that didnt "want it"

It seems to me Perth posters went through these same discussions when McMahon was appointed, some for some against.

It seems to me the club is going through the motions for what ever lays down the track, if by some miracle we win a flag wouldn't mean as much as winning one 30 years ago when it actually meant something, I could imagine walking into work saying yay Perth won the premiership only for my work mates respond with who?.

Without wanting to rain on the anti Spalding party,it seems nobody questioned Greg Hardings appointment at Swans a few years ago.

He was the then coach of Wesley and had considerably LESS success than Earl. He wasn't able to get Wesley into the A Grade Finals in the two years he coached them. Both applicants had similar AFL/VFL credentials.

If it worked for Swans why not Perth?

How the Swans faithfull receive there coaching appointments is there business.

So what are you saying?
every coach that comes out of Wesley Amateurs and has played senior footy elsewhere will be a successful coach.
AFL/VFL experience doesnt make you a good WAFL coach!!!
Jarman,Glascott prove that it doesnt!
It doesnt work that way, different guys from different eras coaching different teams with diffrent lists and on it goes................

DF you are right it hasnt been made official as yet,so who knows?

30+ I disagree with you on Jarman.
I thought he was good coach.
An idiot but a good coach.
I thought he lost interest in his last year and I reckon that may have been because they wouldn't recruit for him.
If they had have backed him with recruits like they backed Dunderklumpin he would have done alright.
Just my thoughts.

You're right with Glascott though he was a complete maniac.
