astro wrote: Ludifer why did Curley change his mind on signing with Perth to go with SF?

Why did the chicken cross the road.................

Why did the peanut go nuts..................

Why did Curley go to Souths.................

Well there is probably only one person who can at least answer one of those questions and its Todd Curley! Here is his linkdin address why don't you ask him yourself!

au.linkedin.com/pub/todd-curley/57/938/41a

We can be an impatient lot us keyboard warriors cant we. Perth have been through this same process many many many times in the last 40 years and on many occasions have got wrong. Now they are expected to run and grab the next best thing just because another team is looking for a coach or some journo is writing about coups in the local toilet paper! Oh please give me a break! The seasons gone.....The first game of next season is 6 fkn months away.....

This is probably one of the best selection panels we have had in a while and the club has reached out to some well respected people in the football community to help with this process and because some journo says its a massive coup (what a load of crap) Perth are now fkd!

Then theres posters from other clubs telling us how fkd we are because we are following through with our stance of 'Finding the best coach for the club'!!! Marty Atkins has said this is his priority as the CEO so sit back and lets see what happens! I couldn't give a toss that Curley has decided to coach Souths......maybe he did think Souths have a better chance next year? Maybe Souths did offer more money (although I doubt it)Maybe John Dimmer on the selection panel who knows Curley all too well said sorry mate your not a good fit for this club! Maybe his wifes hairdresser has a salon near the oval and he can get handies under the bar from the sheila at the Newport!!!

I don't want to have to have this same conversation next year so if they do need to readvertise then so be it. If they need to find more money then go find it but whatever they do not rush into putting pen to paper now because we have done that in the past and look where its got us!

I suspected as much: the club must do its duty: identify an experienced coach and convince him to coach the Perth football club

Inexperienced is fine as long as they are the right person. Experienced is expensive very expensive.

Larry -- so is inexperience if you have to appoint a load of assistants to support the coach; besides, with some of the names mentioned in line for the PFC job we are not just talking about candidates whom have little experience, but no experience

I think most guys coming out of the AFL system with half a brain and good character are more than capable of stepping straight into the role.

I will be the first to admit there are some significant risks associated with appointing an untried coach! Some of the greatest players just havent had the ability to pull a team together! On the other hand a newly retired player does have something to prove to establish a career in coaching so they do bring energy and dedication to the role! Using st kilda as an example in the 90s with the appointments of tim watson and malcolm blight! Tim was a great player who had absolutely no idea on how to coach a footy team and blight who was a great coach who couldnt be bothered and was only in it for the money!

I personally think we will end up with an untried coach but the next few weeks will tell!
