Just had a look at the website now. Kemp and Derksen are both there. There are a few number changes. Parfitt has gone to 17, and Ewing is off the list. Poor guy never really got a chance to prove himself. As I said before, we fall away badly after, at best, 25 players, so let's hope fitness and form hold up

Ewing gone to WC fuck what a waste. Hopefully a worthwhile player swap.

I heard on TAB Radio yesterday that Ewing has been loaned to West Coast for the season. Something to do with the salary cap penalty and reduction in points

Assuming that Conrad Williams cost 10 points as an AFL listed player, (if that is not correct, please tell me)  I fear that will turn out to be a mistake. Not many  speculative academy type players work out - Riach, Benning, for example. I hope to be proved wrong. There's no shame in being unable to break into a strong Peel senior team. However, given the bias in favour of listed players, if the Dockers rated him, they would have given him more chances at league level. His reserves stats are, from the last 10 games, an average of 11 disposals per game with 5 goals. He played 6 league games with an average of 8 disposals and no goals. He will have to show a massive improvement from that base to get a league game at all, let alone justify 10 points.

I didn't think we copped a salary cap penalty just 5 points which surely you can just drop your 5 lowest ranked 1 point players off the list. FMD

Some irony here. We got Brady Grey from WC during Covid and after that he stayed. Grey then gets a job at Fremantle and forced to play for them. Who did we get from Peel as compensation? James Ewing.

I think they've changed it so it's based on how many League games (AFL or State League they've played) - so Williams would only be 2 or 3 points max - depending on what the scale is. You must be able to access that info somehow!

There's also a minimum list size of 55 - so it's not as simple as axing the 5 bottom players, DD. Given Ewing is a loan - he must be some chance to come back

I am pretty sure you are correct DD about no salary cap reduction and that we lose 5 points.

I would rather see the dropping of one 5 point player than five 1 point players though. I assume this is why we lost Hall.

Anyone know how many points Ewing was.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

I hope James has a good job. Or he'll end finding employment with WC and we'll lose him for good.

If Williams is approx a 2 or 3 - Ewing would be 4 or 5 points

I hope you're right, KCEF. It was always a strange system where players who were barely WAFL standard were 10 point players. I remember we used 10 points on Callum Papertalk... Bit harsh on Ewing, but I think if we needed to shed some points, he was the obvious choice. It may have been a choice between Ewing, Kemp, Broadbent and Thorne. Hopefully, WCER can get him fit and in form and we can get him back next year!
