Had my yearly tennis club quiz night yesterday. Can anyone give an update on how the open training night was?

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Randall, Derksen and Broadbent not there, all in NT I think. but great to see Brandon Parfitt there and looked good. Sam Simpson looked in good nick and looks like he's had a better preparation than this time last year. Hopefully that holds him in good stead for a season where he maybe plays 15 games.

Constable and A.Ckarke looked great, Schlensog on the bike, Johnno in a moon boot. Paton played will be like a new recruit. Tyrone Thorne needs to find a pair of shorts that fit. Conrad Williams a nice mover. Q, Stubbs, Nyika John all present, players that had interrupted past pre seasons. Edwards looked great in the ruck I think he's going to have a big season. Tristan Jacques went up against him.

Daniel Hill played forward. Elijah Scoble looked good. A few new faces I couldn't make out.

A very interesting intra club sim game on Friday. There were some very interesting signs to take away.
It seems there are signs of players having been in the gym over summer. Notable new physiques exposed by Aussie Davis and Brodie Gray, not that he really needed it, but both looked impressive. Others looked like they also had done some gym work this pre-season. Add Randall and Derksen and there will be plenty and physicality in the team.
Very hard to be too overly positive but I did see signs of a hard sustained run and carry game by both sides with players taking the game on with a give off, run on and receive and give again with always someone in support. I expected to see players tire late in the game but generally the pace was maintained to the end.
Indications seem to be that fitness levels have been raised this pre-season which is good news.
Yes DD, all the recruits looked fit so we hope there will be no long term injuries. Parfitt seemed to fit in well. He should be a key player at this level.
Early days yet.

It seems our fixture times have changed for the first 2 games. We are now playing SF and WP at 7.30pm start time. A bit late to be changing times around but typical WAFL I suppose.

I see Jacob Coniglio has walked out from the club and has gone back to Swans, where he first started.

A big surprise, I thought he was part of the senior players group.

Jacob’s a terrific guy and gave great service at Perth. Yes, he was part of leadership groups over his time. The speed of the game has probably gone past him a bit in my view and the teams probably looking for more penetrative back half players. Hope he goes well at Swans.

I like Cogs but, as a 30 year old fringe player, I’ll take the transfer fee. Unusual to have players leaving Perth for more opportunity elsewhere- usually the other way around. Maybe a sign we’re on the right track. Still don’t like to see walk outs mid season.

Not for me, I guess, to comment on SD. But with 5 players over 30 and 2 more aged 29, adding Cogs seems strange. Not looking to a youthful rebuild just yet.

I think you're right Ted. I think Coniglios move is a reflection of where both teams are right now. Jacob correctly sees that he has more of a chance of scoring a game with Swans at the moment. We have had one good season and the club seems quite happy to drift into another period of mediocrity
