Now I may be wrong here as I was getting this information second hand but apparently clubs are only allowed to have 8 interstate players on their list. Due to our poor zone we wanted this increased, which I think it has been.

As I said I’m not 100% certain on all the details so might be wrong but I’m pretty sure that’s the general gist of it.

Now obviously every club is trying to recruit players and you don’t always get the player you want. This may be a reason why we see players from other WAFL clubs getting a chance on our list.

Not making excuses for the footy department but if they didn’t recruit anyone, we’d all be up in arms saying they’re sitting on their hands.

We have pursued a policy of picking up cast offs from other clubs for some time now, often just to pad out our list. Even now, our list is replete with them - Sears, More, Peletier, Ewing, Jackson, Matin. Sometimes it works, like with Coniglio. I'd have no problem getting players who are on the cusp of league, like the Sparks' before their change of mind. But why get players who realistically won't get close to a league game? It seems to be because it is the only way we can get a full list. Meanwhile, Marlin lands at EF where he will play reserves all year, instead of being a fixture in our forward line. 

Any chance someone could put a best 22 team together? Not including AJ as he is out for a fair while yet.

I might give it a go at some stage, but it won't be easy. Perhaps a "least worst" 22 is a better way of putting it. But the trouble is I don't know whether many of the new players are going to be league standard or not, guys like Lane, Howard, Shannon. The only players I would definitely say will line up are: Coniglio, Byrne, Sinclair, Clarke, Taylor, Cary, DBW, Stubbs, Davis, Gray, Manzone, Stack and Thompson. Quartermaine, Jones, McPartland and Sing are probables. The rest are either perennial fringe players like Browne, Clark, Peletier, Hayward, unknowns, or a concerningly large cohort who are not even close. 

 

Ted, it seems some allocation of jumper numbers has occurred. May give some indication who is in and who is out.

My concern is Thompson and Pascu are still not listed.

I was just going to say exactly that about Thompson. I recall someone else on this site saying that Pascu was not coming. Of the players you have listed there, the only one we know for sure is league quality is Manzone. 

Thompson has been here for a month. Cody Howard will be a gun. Smooth mover, great kick. Lane looks like he's being tasked to hold down a key defensive role. The team will look unrecognisable from last season. 

Dazz, it seems that we are going to lack height down back. How far off is AJ and can he hold down a key defensive role?
