Can't believe the Eagles are targeting Byrne in exchange for Fisher. Just the other day I posted that I thought the Eagles would be concerned about the optics of playing hardball with a traditional club. Looks like I was wrong. Byrne is 23, Fisher 29-30. Yes, he was good last year, but there's no way it's like for like. The article in the West is not entirely clear, but I understand that the Eagles have no contractual hold over Grey. They want us to repay the 2019 transfer fee for McInnes - fine. But we should not budge on this. We will give them 3 players in exchange for Fisher. They can have Hendo, Martin, Casey, Marlin, Burke, but not Byrne.

Ted the Club has already told the WCE that Byrne is off limits.

Good news the clearance for Smith is through because he is on the WAFL list as a Perth player.

Yep, we play hardball. No way we should let Byrner go. You are spot on Ted. There are several players we could send to WCE, though I wouldn’t want to let Josh Burke or Kasey Nicholas go. Would be a good move for Marlin and Hendo.

Grey and McInnes are the main ones. Fisher played well in a couple of games but was inconsistent. Byrne has the potential to be one of the WAFL’s best midfielders if he returns to health and fitness, so he must be retained. No more losing top line players to other WAFL clubs, like the Leggett situation last season.

Speaking of which, EF are throwing coin at Luke English. Any word on whether he has signed anywhere?

Smokey/DF, I rate Burke, and said a number of times last season that I couldn't understand why he wasn't getting a game. However, it seems clear that he is out of favour. Unless he seriously features in our plans for 2021, I think we would be doing the right thing by letting him go. As for English, is it just about coin or are EF peddling false hope about getting him re-drafted?

I say false with English, not because he's not good enough to get drafted again, but because his prospects are no better at EF than they would be at P or any other club. If he plays well, he'll get drafted irrespective of what jumper he wears. I'm just hoping there won't be any WAFL club unethical enough to suggest otherwise as a way to convince him to sign.

I guess the five figure tsf fee from Perth for Lurch will help EF in their quest for English..plus the 5K tsf fees for the other two EF boys coming Perth's way.....

I guess if EF provide English with what he wants, as did Perth when securing Masten's signature last year, then I guess if uncontracted, English's signature is fair game for all n sundry...as was Masten's.

I hope EF don't end up with a team of HBFs.
