There is a bit of a lull now season 2020 is done and dusted. AFL wise a bit of news drifting through re the trade periods.
A little quiet on the western front.
We know Schofield has gone. I don't think any of us saw that coming. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
I notice a few changes on the Perth senior list:
#2 Andrew Fisher seems to be gone. He will be a loss.
#2 Luke English is listed. No word if he is back in town but I hope he will be lining up in the midfield next season.
#6 Corey Yeo seems to be gone. Anything known??
#23 Delahunty seems to be gone by all reports but still listed. Could it be that #23 is being reserved for someone else??
Mcdonald and O'Driscoll look the most likely to be picked up in the AFL Draft though 2 or 3 others have been mentioned as possibles. I hope we don't lose too many but good luck to all who will be in the draft.
A player who has not yet been elevated to the senior list is Zak Meloncelli who has quite good colts stats. Still only 17 and turns 18 later this month. Most likely still eligible
for u/18s if not PSA.
Chris Mayne. An unusual instagram message posted on the Schofield thread re "I'm back".
At a glance it looks convincing but could only be genuine if he has or is retiring from AFL. He always said that he would be back but there is nothing in the local press, on the club website, nor on the AFL or Collingwood sites.
Be great if he was to be back for 2021..a 1 point recruit but we shall have to wait and see if there is any substance to this.
The Harris departure from Claremont raises some interesting thoughts. Any chance we could score a tall defender and a goal kicking forward or may be a ruckman. There is word that a lot of Claremont players were very disgruntled with what happened to Harris so if we aren't already we should be sniffing around sooner rather than later.

Bit cryptic, but I’m going to guess Busher and Goddard. Not sure about the 50 goal forward- not many of them around- you did have a crack at Strnadica last year

We have to keep our outs to an absolute minimum obviously we have no control over players drafted and the likes of Fisher and Gray were just on loan.

My wish list would be
Ruckman
Midfielder
Small forward
Key Forward
Key backman

#6 was not on Demons list for most of 2020- I assume so his points did not count (just like Byrne who is now back). Perth’s points were very finely poised when the WCE loan players were included.

Correct FO. Byrne is back on the list as he is now fully fit to resume in 2021. Yeo may not be fit by the start of the season at the very earliest.
Yes, I believe we may have been delicately poised in regard to total points but we do recoup 23 points for Fisher, Grey and Delahunty who appear to have left and some minor dribs of points with reductions to others.
If there is a Santa Claus our wishes may be for the return of a couple one point players and still leave room for a couple more recruits.
30+, to my mind, if Santa is good to us we may be able to fill your wishlist with which I agree.
I have some frustration with this period of the year when info out of the club is limited for many reasons. Given another 3 or 4 weeks and we should gradually get a good idea of where and how we will fare in 2021.

Busher was one of Harris's closest confidantes and apparently one of the most vocal in the players heated discussion with the board. Will be interesting to see his path from here, he's been a leader at our club and is the glue that holds our defence together. Goddard may be looking for opportunity elsewhere after losing favour as number one ruckman. He is a massive lad but still a work in progress, doesn't tap the ball very well, isn't very strong through his hips and is a poor athlete. Has a big heart though and should only get better.

If Goddard is getable Percy Johnson will get him to Swans. Was his mentor at Claremont before going back to Swans. He was the No 1 state ruckman under Percy's guidance. Maybe we offer a package deal to Percy and Jeremy?
Get on your bike.

Not sure why Busher would come back to us, although he would be handy at CHB. It's remarkable that Percy Johnson is still going strong in 2020. He was with us back in the early 2000s when memory.

Don’t you know Personal, everyone is coming to Perth. That is what many on here tell us. Hamish Bradshaw will be the next coming to Perth, oh and of course Busher is returning. Anyone else, oh yes Chris Mayne is leaving Collingwood to play for Perth.

Even when you sign a guy you can't be guaranteed he'll suit up. Caution is the better part of valour when it comes to discussing recruits. I hear things. I put them out there. But I'm careful not to names names (i.e. my post on an east perth player we are interested in) until at least they've signed a contract.

My gut feeling is that this year we may struggle to cover our losses (MacDonald, O'Driscoll, Fisher, Grey, Delahunty). Likely one or two may come from the colts, but there is few in the reserves who are likely to make the leap to league.
