Correct, the LNG industry in this state alone is a multi Billion dollar industry , that employs thousands of people and creates billions of dollars of export revenue and tax recipes from the nation, there is more impressive projects coming on stream soon with processing of Browse on the Karratha Burrup which will mean expansion of the current trains , more investment and more work, the international demand for LNG is growing at exceptional rates, then of course there is also the NT and Queensland LNG, couple that with our Iron Industry ( we supply high grade clean burning low emission ore compared to other producers) WA alone is keeping the nation afloat export wise. Then there is the multi Billion dollar coal industry with demand increasing from India steadily...anyone who thinks some fantasy renewables industry would be able to match the above in investment, profits, revenues and jobs is so deluded its not funny.

If we were fair dinkum on carbon emissions then why not STOP export of coal to countries who DONT give a shit & use it ourselves. That would bring down world emissions.

Apparently 1+1 equals 3.

Precisely , the entire argument is totally ludicrous, we are a Fossil fuel exporting nation, sending billions of dollars worth of fossil fuels to nations and buyers that are burning it, us closing down 1 or 2 power stations here while still exporting the stuff to burn in another place is almost comical in its pointlessness.

If the ALP were really serious about cutting emissions they would shut down coal and lng exports, how would the CFMEU/MUA/AWU think about those job losses, and while you are at it , where does are export income come from?

js MT should refer PD to the High Court. I would presume that a matter of urgency the HC would expedite the hearing. If the HC rule PD is ineligible to sit in parliament then MT would have no choice but to go to the GG and prorogue parliament and have an election.

Breaking news:

It looks like Dutton doesn't want to be referred to the HC and is going to mount a challenge tonight.

Two WA MP's Cash and Cormann withdrawn their support for the PM. What a farrrken shambles.

It's time we changed our political system like the American system. If that means we become a republic so be it. That way, they can all run against each other to be the nominee to run for government and President of Australia and it is US who decides who leads the country NOT the selfish parties and ambitious self centred individuals. And then our President can run a maximum of two terms so there is a guarantee of a handover in the top job.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

Just a small digression I have seen several advertisements for the Liberal Party (Victoria) concerning their state election in November. Given the Liberal Party in that state has considered selling their headquarters one could wonder why they would be wasting money advertising in August for a November election. Is a certain one-time, some time American providing free advertising to the Liberal Party?

David Speers (Sky News) has said that to his knowledge neither Cormann nor Cash have resigned.

gtr: so true on China -- I read somewhere that during Obama's government, Peking tried to have the commander of the Pacific fleet removed because he was too anti-Chinese -- thankfully he ignorred them.

There would be none of that under Trump.
