julie Bishop
Malcolm

I would welcome the replacement of Jellyfish Turnbull with Gruppenführer Dutton (assuming he is not disqualified by the High Court sometime in the near future).

The inevitable result would be a landslide to the party(s) of reason in the next election, and the casting out of many of the bastard children of the Lyin' Deputy Sheriff - aka Lil' Johnny Howard.

Bring it on, I say. :cheer:

I promise you Swan42: a renewable target will bring Shorten down; don't point to Victoria, as that will be a close election in a state which is very left-wing. Look at SA's last election if you want to spot the political landscape in the future.

A question for you please Swan 42: why are you allowing just 13 per cent of Australia's electorate to dominate the body politic of the nation? If both the ALP and the Tories told the Greens to naff off we would all be better off, and more importantly, 87 per cent of the voters whom votted against environmentalism would have their wishes met and keep their jobs. Now, would not that be a novel idea in the Western World.

Even the Germans are turning against such policies, I mention that, because as you know, the silly old West Germans under Petra Kelly gave rise to all this environmentalist totalitarianism back in Helmut Kohl's day.

Let me start by stating that anyone who thinks that the Liberal Party of today is left of John Howard or Malcolm Fraser is quite simply delusional. Similarly anyone who thinks that the current ALP is left of Hawke and Keating governments are wrong and I would say that the Whitlam government would occupy a not too distant place from the current Greens.

Now let me take you to the cusp of the 2007 election both sides of politics went to the election with an ETS. If the Liberals had followed the mandate of supporting the policies of the party winning then we wouldn't have the farce that we have now. The Labor Party has very rarely if ever had control of the Senate so they have had to negotiate their legislation through the Senate. This means that on occasions compromises need to be made.

I don't necessarily accept that your assertion that 87% don't support some of the policies of the Greens. Very few people would support 100% of a party's platform. I certainly don't support 100% of the ALP's policies.

Unquestionably there is a move towards renewables that is inexorable. It is inevitable and we are missing an opportunity to be a leading country in renewable technology. We should be providing more r&d dollars in this sector.

Let me also address a point that Rita Panahi tried to make (completely unsuccessful) about preferences of the Greens and some One Nation going to Labor. For a formal vote one needs to number all candidates.

I ve predicted a Shorten win for at least 2 years now, by 10 to 20 seats, let me revise that based on todays results and regardless of if its Dutton or MT, I would say 20 plus, with the ALP/Greens also having control of the Senate. At least two terms. Some almighty pain to come.

Swan42: where? Seriously -- Paris does not apply to places, such as China and India, at least for the foreseeable future; America has left; Russia ignores it; opinion in the EU is changing as I pointed out; these are the big emmitters

How else shall we judge support for the Greens? The problem with this country is that people support renewables provided they don't have to pay for them.

Correct, the LNG industry in this state alone is a multi Billion dollar industry , that employs thousands of people and creates billions of dollars of export revenue and tax recipes from the nation, there is more impressive projects coming on stream soon with processing of Browse on the Karratha Burrup which will mean expansion of the current trains , more investment and more work, the international demand for LNG is growing at exceptional rates, then of course there is also the NT and Queensland LNG, couple that with our Iron Industry ( we supply high grade clean burning low emission ore compared to other producers) WA alone is keeping the nation afloat export wise. Then there is the multi Billion dollar coal industry with demand increasing from India steadily...anyone who thinks some fantasy renewables industry would be able to match the above in investment, profits, revenues and jobs is so deluded its not funny.

If we were fair dinkum on carbon emissions then why not STOP export of coal to countries who DONT give a shit & use it ourselves. That would bring down world emissions.
