I was really perplexed at the almost celebratory nature of the pronouncements from the Essendon FC after the ASADA announcement that they would not appeal, given that it was always likely that WADA would take up their option. This issue is now entering a new phase which is outside the auspices of the AFL and has massive implications for the code in general. I do feel sorry for the players but not others involved in this saga.

Was always gonna end up with WADA after players were exonerated and rightly so. From everything I've read and heard this morning it appears they can't compel Alavi, Charters & Dank to testify so their angle will most likely be to move the boundary line of where possible use without any actual evidence lies. McDevitt doesn't waste any time getting out to the media is the first thing I noticed today. Can't help himself. If WADA are able to get a guilty verdict it is going to be a serious embarrassment for Gill and will spit in the face of the independent tribunal. Worst case scenario now for the Essendon players is just as bad for AFL House.

What is perplexing about it, people can smell and rat and don't want it swept under the carpet, its actually far worse for the code as you say if that is what happens.

Just like last time the result will be the same. They can smell as many rats as they like but the fact is they have been proven to be innocent.

I think now with wada they have to prove they are innocent, as in they are now assumed guilty. I stand corrected.
Wada nabbed a WORLD famous bloke by the name of Armstrong, a backwater sport in Aus is no hurdle to them. That is good luck in yer "a dog ate my homework" excuse with them!!

If you read between the lines of that AGE article, and others I Might add (good pick up by the way UNKA2) then Essendon and many of its minions are likely screwed

I for one always wondered how long WADA would take to step into this cloudy mess

Only the naïve would have thought that this was completely over after the AFL's collusive judiciary came to their dirty verdict (not an aspersion on the players - they have been laboratory experiments' almost throughout)
WADA also had the right even if all or some had been found guilty and handed a penalty that if WADA deemed that penalty not severe enough to step in and broker its increase .... its the WORLD body for christs sake!!

Now that the AFL have had their tentacle control cut out from its body, we the footy public will be able to take whatever the decision and outcome from the worlds bodies verdict as being sound & without collusion or hopefully any added conspiratorial backroom meeting involvement.
Yes I know the biggest bodies can still be manipulated by even bigger business, but its out of the AFLs hands and that's got to be a good thing for the sport and the public.

WADAS charge is for world sport - not a single country's interest or its most aggrandising sporting body no matter how powerful they believe themselves to be.

The arrogance and insane self belief of Mr James Herds choice to allow his players to be involved in the chemical experiment will be found out and this mans guilt is yet to be played out - now upon the WORLD stage, and I have serious doubts his ego or his dollars will withstand the onslaught about to befall him, the club, the officials and the AFL itself.

The stinking drug stain that Australian sport has had thrown over it like a dirty sheet continues
Thank you Essendon ...

Just watched Gerard Whately completely own Hird on 360 I thought Hird was going to cry, about time a real journalist asked the hard questions.

Hird kept repeating that they were found not guilty and Whately had to keep correcting him that that was not the case at all, and of course that knob Robbo was massaging Hirds balls at every opportunity.

I love Gerard Whately - I gauge Whately as one of if not the best Journo on sport
He is knowledgeable and sticks to a question to gain an answer ... even after the interviewee might try to worm out as it sounds like Hird did?

As for Robbo
What a dick - he and Hird are both poured from the same masturbation gell Tube.

Not sure what interview you watched PN. Seemed like a very reasonably spirited interview to me. Think you might be letting your hatred get in the way again. The one thing I took out of it which I hadn't heard previously was the last question and Hird stating as fact that ASADA had been given records by Ian Robson on a spreadsheet that show Thymodulin in use at the club. Something ASADA never brought to the tribunal and claims not to have. Robbos response "that's a big accusation James" Hird's response "it's not an accusation, it's a fact". Have they withheld evidence at ASADA that was detrimental to their case. Hird drops a 'bombshell' (Whately's words) and apparently Gerard owned him..ok
