It was a shocking call - you would have thought that whoever reviewed that decision simply didn't know the rules.

as a pairing it is probably a case of the odd couple
worked beautifully today
and look at the options available sitting on 1-270 , 30 ahead already , and still with 20 more overs of time until the end of the second day

It has been revealed that the umpires have missed 21 no-balls. If that wasn’t astonishing enough, those missed calls were just in the first two sessions of Friday’s day of play.

That's a shambles

Amazing to see the speeds generated by the 16 yr old Pakistani youngster today 140 +....hope the kid stays fit....only gonna get faster one would expect....Burns unlucky to miss out....Warner hopefully can go big tomorrow...Smith to get out cheaply no doubt.....Labuschagne to break his 100 duck......600 minimum....than let Starc et al loose....

Pakistan bowled a lot better today but the damage had already been done. The day belonged to Marnus with good support from Wade. Amazing to see Smith with only 4 out of nearly 600. 3 late wickets were the icing on the cake and I can see a finish by tea tomorrow.

Whilst Smith (and of course others) would be disappointed at his early dismissal the positive lies in the Australian side not being dependent on Smith.

Some very positive signs in the opening test so far - Warner returning to form in the test arena (there was possibly more hype on this from the media than required for mine), Burns being part of a 200+ opening partnership (the bloke made a hundred in his last test before not being selected as part of the Ashes squad to tour England), Labuschagne (the more you see his name the easier it is to spell) and then Starc - whose selection may have been doubtful if not for his Shield form earlier this year. Good indicator that Shield form.

With 3 down for Pakistan now in the second dig it will be a great effort to just bat through tomorrow...which is pretty unlikely.

We end up winning by an Innings and 5 runs to keep our unbeaten 31 year streak at the Gabba intact with a day to spare.
Didnt get it all our own way today with the Pakis Babar Azam hitting a nice 104 and the keeper Rizwan 95 taking it up to our bowlers.
No move on to Adelaide for the day/night pink ball Test starting Friday.

Whilst across the ditch the Poms have their work cut out trying to hold out NZ on the last day in their Test vs the Kiwis at Mt Manganui after a huge partnership between Kiwi keeper Watling (205) and Santner (126), did I see poor ol Jofra Archer reduced to bowling 130km/h medium pace on the more unforgiving tracks?

Good start to the series with an even spread of contributors with both bat and ball. The pace bowlers certainly split the wickets between them. Would have liked to have seen Lyon do a bit more with the ball in Pakistan's second innings, however he will no doubt get his chances later in the series.
