Will be interesting to see what they do with Pattinson for the next test, would be tough to drop any of the bowlers from Brisbane.
I'm sure Mohammed Abbas will play in Adelaide. Terrible decision not to play him in this test given his experience and record v Australia

After that performance can't how any bowlers would be dropped - no real point of adding Pattinson back into the squad. It does appear that the current selectors have a bent against Starc (his non selection in the Ashes tests would at least suggest that) however his early Shield form and the first test figures keeps him safe for a test or two now. I get the feeling he is the one under the most pressure.
The non selection of Abbas was gobsmacking...makes you wonder about politics at play. Hard to imagine him being in their squad and not being one of the first (if not the first) paceman picked.

The 2nd Test starts tomorrow at Adelaide and looks like we have gone in with the same 12 from Brisbane although I get the feeling they are keen on bringing Neser in for his debut Test at the expense of......?

Read an article today from Allan Border who proposed the idea of playing 4 pace bowlers in the Adelaide Test - proposed that Lyon's figure with the pink ball in day/night test matches aren't as good as Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood, although he did also stress it would be hard on Lyon.
The interesting thing about his 4 pace bowler theory was that Pattinson came in replace Lyon and not Neser - I think your right though about them being keen on bringing Neser in.

Its bloody raining over East again!

Maybe CA should look to Perth to host all 5 Tests every Summer a couple of benefits being-

a) Perth is the only venue in Australia that has never lost a days play to rain
b) Perth is the biggest rating Test of the 5 each year (due no doubt to the time difference) and would be a financial windfall for CA and its broadcast partners

let us not make too much of the scoreboard lads and lasses. Unless it is played at Sydney, test cricket is too easy for the batsmen these days. It is the bloody ball and the drop-in pitches, me thinks.

Keep in mind a couple of scores:

Engl: 513/1 (Brisbane)
Pakistan 620 all out batting against DK, Lawson, Hogg, Hogan. (Adelaide)
Australia made 700 at the WACA in the last Ashes series from memory

It's great to see the Aussies playing so well.Batting and bowling and fielding well. But not much of a contest. Will listen on the radio but hard to watch on Tv.
Pakistan who havnt played at home for almost a decade look sub-par as a Test nation.Fielding is terrible and batting +bowling not much better.
It's a bit like Subi in the Wafl.Very predictable and quiet hard to watch.Bring on the Black CaPs ASAP.

stt, gtr, so true, both of your posts.

just to put it into further perspective in regards to how easy it has got to bat in the last thirty years, in particular, have a look at the stat below:

1877- 1970

one player made 300 in a test match in Australia: Cowper

since 1980 2020

Warner
Clarke
Hayden

plus Taylor, Cook and Lara have come close and Smith would have had he been a more attacking player by nature. Have I missed anybody? One of the Indian players?

Playing on uncoverred pitches would fix the problem very quickly, batsmen would have no fun in Brisbane and Sydney that is for certain.

I still say we should have dropped Warner down to 5 or 6 in the batting order in England where coincidentally he scored his highest Test score in England back in 2013 but the stubborn lot left him to open and continue to be Broad's bunny.
Is a far better batsmen in Australian conditions like many other batsmen have been over the years eg Walters, I.Chappell, Khawaja etc
