I'm talking your Terry Aldermans, Mick Malones, Gary Gilmore types who could make the ball talk. How about JL giving Terry a call FFS. Even Greg Chappell would come on with his mild medium pacers and vary the pace and move it around in the air. Our bowlers are just too predictable.

Yep and WA used to be the leader in the art of producing swing bowlers DD- Massie, Malone, Alderman, MacLeay etc.
The only genuine swing bowlers I can think of playing in Australia currently are Daniel 'Franky' Worrall and Chad Sayers in SA and possibly Trent Copeland NSW.

Ark they where talking about Indian back foot players on ABC Grandstand. A few days ago.Sunny G brother in law Gunduppa Vishwinath and also Dilip Vensaka. They both played in teams Sunny captained.+Kapel Dev+a crazy opener Siv Christanath, think that's his name.
India beat Aust 80-81 on the Mcg.Viswinath scored 114 and India won in a low scoring test.Kim Huges got a 100 the following year vs the Windies on a similar batting minefield.

That would be Kris Srikkanth GTR who was a dashing Indian opening batsman and a perfect foil for the far more circumspect but legendary Sunil Gavaskar. The Indians had a good top order back in the 80s with Gavaskar, Srikkanth, Chauhan, Viswanath, Vengsarkar, Azharuddin, Shastri and later Tendulkar.
B

BH was Srikkanth the first of that type of opener.Followed by types like M Slater,B McCallum,Ryan Campbell. Chris Broad

BH there a good swing bowler playing for the Melbourne Renegades. A Pakistani called Shinwari. Got injured tonight there playing at Kardinya Park.but not an Aussie. We need to start poaching some of these players to play for us.The Poms have been doing it for decades.

I guess so GTR but I always believed the West Indies legendary opening pair of Gordon Greenidge & Desmond Haynes could give it a tick along back then (and before them Roy Fredericks).
The 2 openers who took it to a whole new level after Srikkanth were the Sri Lankan pair Sanath Jayasuriya & Romesh Kaluwithurana boy did they give it some hurry up opening the batting.

Jackson Bird too BH....a few recent Aussie coaches like Lehman were fixated on speed...be disappointing if Langer is the same.....all you hear on the commentary these days is 145 clicks this ..150 clicks thst....the faster it comes on to the bat the faster it comes off the bat......Anderson ain't express, nor is Philander or Abbass or Boult...Yet they take wickets with good movement and nous.....Rabada is the only genuine top quick regularly taking the wickets of the top order guys....

Looks like India will sail past 400....then the pitch will turn to custard....only chance Aust had was getting India out for 250 odd....somehow getting a lead of 100 plus and bowling India out cheaply in the 2nd innings....Pujara has put that plan to bed....what is the bet India's 2nd specialist spinner takes more wickets than Aust 2nd part time spinner..and scores more runs than him.....looks like this match could be done by day 4 sadly.....think Langer and the selectors should also send someone else other than Paine out to do the coin toss too....LOL

Yep Bird is a swing bowler as well Freeze but after getting the call up for the Boxing Day Test last Summer on that dreadful MCG road pitch the selectors have put the line through him.
Just watching the SA vs PAK 2nd Test at Cape Town at the moment sheesh as good as the Indian bowling attack is luckily our pathetic batsmen are not facing the SA attack of Steyn, Philander, Rabada & Olivier! :pinch:

With all the lefties in the batting line-up can't any of them bowl left arm orthodox? AB and Clarke were pretty handy variation.

Gee the Aussies will be glad to see the back of Pujara. He looks like he wants to bat till Monday and it seems he would be capable too, such are his powers of concentration! India will probably want to pile on as many runs as possible, they are under no pressure to win this match as they lead the series. They may try and bat till about an hour away from the end of day 2 and then put Australia in for 10 - 12 overs.
You have to acknowledge Indias acheivement in this series and they are demonstrating why they are the number 1 team in the world. The great thing for them is that Kohli has not been as dominant as he normally is and his only century has been in the test they lost, however other players have stepped up and contributed .
I think the big difference between this and other tours of Australia by India is that the Aussies have been outbowled in this series. This has been lost a bit with all the talk about the Australian batting woes but the Indian bowling unit led by Bumrah has consistently bowled better line and length than our guys. Our fast bowlers have been hot and cold and all over the shop at times and only Lyon has been really consistent.

And how come the Aussie boys always select the largest ball out of a box of 24.

Cant remember "coins" being tossed since last Anzac day game.
And the "bigger" the ball the slower it travels in the grass. Also more chance of hitting the stumps if we find a bowler who can do that..

Whilst I agree with your thoughts Mikeh, would of been interesting to see how the Indian attack would if gone against Aust best two batsmen....one would like to think Smith especially batting long like Pujara and making 100s, might of dragged a few Aussie batsmen with him and put some pressure back onto the likes of Bumrah et al....take Kohli and Pujara out of the equation and I reckon the Indian scores would be less....but hey pie in the sky talk....the Indians have done the job professionally and kudos to them in that......the Aussie batsmen have failed to stay the course, allowing the Indian bowlers to be patient, keep their lines, knowing it would be a matter of time before taking out an Aussie batsmen....first time in a while no top order batsmen to average over 40 in a series.....

Reckon Pujara is looking to go very big here.....bat as you say mikeh until late on day 2...then overnight the pitch will turn into a raging dustbowl and the Indian spinners will get to work.....what ever happens in the SL tests will mean jack shit....as the SL attack is pop gun at best from what I have seen over here in NZ.....perhaps MO might allow Pucovski to play considering no SL bowler gets the ball above knee height and hitting bowling speeds about 130 km....
