Richardson is too old.

At 22 Richardson should at least be in the squad ahead of Siddle at 34 so he can start to experience what it's like to be involved at the top level and what's required.

he was in the squad for South Africa, my preference is he keeps playing for the Scorchers but if you would prefer him travelling around with the Aussies mixing cordial than playing cricket fair enough.

Yep...fair point. He's better off playing with the Scorchers than not playing at all....mind you...he's on a hiding to nothing playing for them at the moment too.

Considering some of those U/19 boys are scoring runs and taking wickets in the longer format compared to their older more seasoned, less mentally and physically challenged comrades....why not?....but not asking for all of them to be picked right now as you are insuinating.....but I can see your reservations....

getting back to this game for the moment, the Aussies are already looking down the barrel although as I write this, they have got rid of Kohli which is a bonus. More follow up wickets needed though as India still comfortable at 3- 180. I think 3 more wickets in the last session (including Pujara) would keep them in the game at the end of day 1. An inauspicious start from our part time leggie, 3 drag downs and 12 runs! Oh well didn't Warnie get 1 - 200 in his first test against India in Sydney?

there is a little bit of a myth about Indian cricket in this country, one which claims they can't play short bowlling; it is untrue in my experience; Patel made 175 against DK and Pascoe, never mind Laxman, Dravid, Gavaskar Tendulkar and Shastri. In this context it is clear that it has been their relatively weak bowlling line-ups which have cost them series.

Ark they where talking about Indian back foot players on ABC Grandstand. A few days ago.Sunny G brother in law Gunduppa Vishwinath and also Dilip Vensaka. They both played in teams Sunny captained.+Kapel Dev+a crazy opener Siv Christanath, think that's his name.
India beat Aust 80-81 on the Mcg.Viswinath scored 114 and India won in a low scoring test.Kim Huges got a 100 the following year vs the Windies on a similar batting minefield.

Where are the swing bowlers these days? Ok Starc can get a bit of reverse swing but not bowling consistently enough to put it on the spot. I'm talking your Terry Aldermans, Mick Malones, Gary Gilmore types who could make the ball talk. How about JL giving Terry a call FFS. Even Greg Chappell would come on with his mild medium pacers and vary the pace and move it around in the air. Our bowlers are just too predictable.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

What made that fine innings of 174 even more remarkable AR was Sandeep Patil had been sconed on the head by a Lenny Pascoe bumper a couple of weeks beforehand whilst on 65 and was knocked unconscious and had to Retire Hurt.

That would be Kris Srikkanth GTR who was a dashing Indian opening batsman and a perfect foil for the far more circumspect but legendary Sunil Gavaskar. The Indians had a good top order back in the 80s with Gavaskar, Srikkanth, Chauhan, Viswanath, Vengsarkar, Azharuddin, Shastri and later Tendulkar with the magnificent All-Rounder Kapil Dev coming in at 6 or 7.
