In January 2015 someone loaded maps of WAFL zones on Bigfooty on the WAFL forum.

From the numbers provided I think it is pretty obvious that some adjustment needs to be made to the zones to make the colts situation fairer. How often do these reviews get done by the WAFL as it seems to have been a long time since there was any change?

I believe the reviews are meant to occur every 5 years and I think they are based on the total numbers of players in each WAFL clubs metropolitan and country zones.

any zone changes need to be done as a total review, Subi finished 3rd in the colts in 2013, their numbers did not affect them that year.

have Subi got the right coaching and development people in place ? is it resourced properly ?

if all people are doing is looking at numbers then Peel should win every year.

can Subi people please provide an assessment of their junior development set-ups at colts level that justifies why the zones should change.

thanks.

Hit the nail on the head MO.
Our $ubi and funnily enough only our $ubi 'friends' believe a change of zones will be the cure to all their Colts issues.
$ubi receive the same coaching and development grant as Swans do one has to ask where is this money actually being spent is it on junior development or on just topping up the League team with Interstate/out of zone/other club recruiting year after year?
With the year Swans have had we should be the club putting our hand up for extra zone coverage with our senior teams currently filling stone motherless last by 3 games & 50% & 6th whilst $ubi are 1st 2 games and 20% clear on top (destined for their 3rd flag in a row since last zone changes) & 4th ..hardly struggle street and that is even without taking into account their social club business and all of the associated perks included with that that the G6 clubs dont have!

Only 2 clubs have been seriously affected by all the zone changes over time SD & SF. Since I have been following Swans not that long after the zones came into effect in 1980 we have lost the following areas to other WAFL clubs-

Esperance- Subiaco
Collie- Peel
Eaton/Australind- Peel
Harvey/Brunswick/Leschenault- Peel
Belmont- Perth
Redcliffe- Perth
Cloverdale- Perth
Ellenbrook- East Perth
Beechboro- East Perth

We did volunteer to take on one of the former remote areas being the Pilbara which is a very labour intensive exercise in itself for a WAFL club on a strict budget but rewarding all the same.

If $ubi are serious about any change to the zones maybe they should apply to take the East Kimberley off Claremont who have some very big advantages already with the Golden Triangle in the metro area, Albany & the Great Southern, Ongerup & West Kimberley plus East Kimberley as it stands.

The big issue with Colts is where we are situated as in Medibank/Les Lillyman...
all our players from our zone are between a 30-45 min drive to training and as we know with kids today its just to hard....
A colts base North of the River would get more kids to attend in my opinion...

exactly what i identified earlier BigO, its totally illogical for Subi colts to be based at Leederville.
you are the first Subi supporter to acknowledge this and not just focus on numbers.
