I would think that it would indicate Swans never had the huge supporter base of other clubs but in turn havnt had the drop-off of the bigger supporter clubs.

I think it means your right, Swans never had a huge supporter base as many on here think, and in the comps hey day appear to have contributed to the WAFLs decline in the 80s.

In terms of South, how would swans fare if a AFL club decided to move into Bassendean and call itslef the Midland FC? I dare say SFFC has fared pretty bloody well all things consiidered with the invasive and oppresive compeition it faced from a AFL monster.

to think to this day we are still able to pull among the top crowds in the league is testatment to the clubs passion and popularity.

Post 1980 is considered the modern era so in actual fact SD have had 4 of the 5 biggest attendances in THE MODERN ERA-

1. 1982 SD vs C
3. 1980 SD vs SF
4. 1983 SD vs C
5. 1984 SD vs EF

well at least you have clarified for us Bazza that despite SD having the 2 largest GF crowds in the last 12 years that they are responsible for the decline of WAFL GF crowds and dont actually have a decent sized supporter base.
