premiership hangover wrote: Geez Mitch Marsh would want to bat well when he gets his chance. He is bowling some absolute crap at the moment, both sides of the wickets and no consistency with his length, makes it hard for a captain to set fields to that crap

I got a feeling that Mitch is off tonight. Think we’ll be asking why the hell he was selected. Certainly looking like goodnight Irene!!

Reckon the Scorchers will still chase down any total Hobart set....if donkeys like Wade and Christian can make it look easy than hopefully the Scorchers batters will take a liking to Hobarts attack....the senior bowlers have been disappointing for Voges though....great to see youngsters in Richardson and Kelly leading from the front....that Kelly looks like a gem....good fielder as well.

Oops...feel like Lou "kiss of death" Richards there with that post

Apart from Kelly I don't think the bowlers will be looking forward to looking at their bowling replays. Strangely undisciplined and their worst performance of the season by a long shot. They really missed Agar and the variety he offers. 211 is a very tough ask for the batsmen and a few of them will have to play out of their skins to get anywhere near the target. Mitch Marsh owes them big time with the bat after his 4 overs of garbage.

Without Agar they just had to play another spinner.Voges a part timer.

and then he plays a shot like that.....
I may be old school but I was always taught in a final you win the toss, you bat and do your best to put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.

The Thunder won the toss and bowled in the won ams game and they lost, at 5 for 64 of 9 overs, right now it looks like both sides that batted first are going to loose badly

That has been my biggest bugbear with the scorchers this season!

Yes, they finished on top, but I couldn't understand why they ALWAYS bowled first, no matter the conditions. There was several times they nearly blew it, and I always felt that their luck would eventually run out! I prayed that they would change tonight and choose to bat, but not to be, and look at the score that Hobart got!

Was always on the card.

Disappointing end to the tournament for Perth.

Good luck to the Hurricane's. Renegades,Adelaide.Had a bad feeling about tonight as the Scorchers keep coming up with these wins. From almost unwinnable positions. But didn't expect this hiding.

mikeh wrote: Both Marshes back for the semi final tomorrow, will be intriguing to see the make up of the team. Shaun will obviously come in for Whiteman and Mitch for Agar but then that leaves the Scorchers without a spin option unless they throw young Morton to the wolves. Another alternative is for Voges and Mitch Marsh to share the 5th bowler role with Johnson, Richardson, Bresnan and Kelly to provide the fast/medium.
The Hurricanes worry me a bit as they have some potential match winners even though they have been inconsistent. D'Arcy Short's absence will help but they still have good batsmen in Doolan and Bailey who can anchor the innings as well as free scorers like Wade, Christian, McDermott, Milenko, Reardon and Paine. In the bowling department they have Archer who has been the find of the summer as well as Boyce and Rose who are both economical spin bowlers. They are a little weak in the bowling depth though and that may be where the Scorchers batting can take a toll on the 4th and 5th bowlers.
If the Scorchers can get through this game I would be very confident that they would have either the Strikers or the Renegades covered in the final. Both will have key players missing through injury or national selection.

I take no pleasure in saying my concern about the Hurricanes was well founded. 20/20 cricket is very unforgiving if you are 5% off your game. If this happens you generally get flogged which is what occured tonight. By contrast, the Hurricanes played the perfect game. I sensed a bit of arrogance and complacency in the Scorchers camp and the media in the lead up to this encounter and cricket has a way of bringing a team back down to earth with a thud.
It was still an excellent season for the guys in orange and they will still be back up there next year.
I think the Canes have gained so much confidence from this win that they will be hard to stop in the final.

Voges didnt have a great night tonight. As other guys have said, runs on the board in finals are the way to go, so he should have batted first, especially with the line up he had. Bowling the wrong Mitch in over number 1 which immediately handed the momentum to the Hurricanes and they never let it go. Finally a soft dimissal when admittedly the game was just about gone.A disappointing way for him to go out if it is to be his last game.
I also thought the adjudication of wides by the umpires was completely baffling tonight, they seemed to be making it up as they went along.
