Klingers non selection is a difficult one mikeh....do you think its more keeper related than test related tho?...Klinger plays and then a part time keeper in Bancroft plays as a specialist keeper...when in fact Bancroft is a specialist batsman who keeps part time....ok in the short format but not wise in the longer format.....picking Inglis is a sensible move I think.....just who makes way for him is the difficult question....WA certainly has some depth that is for sure...as Langer said 7 doesn't go into six....

As for Ed....never been a Cowan fan at test level....yep leading run scorer in the comp last year, great effort can't do more than that....but NSW like WA are spoilt for depth, esp when their test boys are back...once again 7 doesn't go into 6....as for playing for Aust.....Ed has an average of 31.......at 35yrs of age is he what Aust needs?.....yeah Voges got in at a similar age, but like Hussey before him, both made big test runs from the off, more so than Cowan did in his test dig over 18 odd games.......don't agree with Smith's involvement though, how many games has he played for NSW of late to warrant a say in NSW match selection....yep at test level for sure but at state level I think not?

I have to admit I am absolutely dumbfounded that Behrendorff has been left out of the WA XI for this first Sheffield Shield clash vs Tasmania?!
Not only the fact he hasnt been considered in the best 4 fast bowlers for WA but also I would have thought he would have been in the discussion/on the fringe of Australian selection if god forbid one of our quickies (Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins) were to get injured.

Totally agree BH....what is this love affair with Coulter-Nile?....Behrendorff is a way better bowler than C-N.....is Moody any good....Mackin did well last year so understand his selection....good to see Kelly rewarded for his one day form....though Green and Richardson are all young and promising....hopefully they get a gig because I can see one of them walking TBH.....

We do have a rich array of fast bowlers currently at our disposal Freeze including Behrendorff, NCN, Mackin, Richardson, Kelly, Moody, Green (not to mention all rounders Stoinis & M.Marsh) so it was never going to be an easy selection I am just shocked it is Dorff that has missed out as I would have thought he would have been the safest out of the lot.
Interestingly he is the only left arm variety out of the lot of them mentioned above as well.

Behrendorff not picked due to load issues, yet NCN is picked...guess you cant pick both considering their recent history.....forgot about Paris too.....geez best bowling squad WA has had for a long time....if they were Sydney boys reckon they would all be wearing baggy greens by now....

Sheesh I forgot about Paris another leftie at least (I think Duffield has been delisted from the WA squad).
Unfortunately all have been plagued with injury problems as well touchwood we have an injury free run for a change.
Yep this is our best line up of fast bowlers since probably our halcyon days of the 70s, 80s & early 90s where we had the likes of Lillee, McKenzie, Alderman, Malone, Clark, Gannon, MacLeay, Reid, Matthews, Mullally, Capes, Julian, Angel et al all come off the production line.

anchorman wrote: A great article on Foxsports today in regards to the Sheffield Shield and the players being left out of the State side.Worth a read.

Just read the article Anchorman. It has left me speechless. Winning the shield is now secondary to developing Australian cricketers. What they don't realise is that with the Sheffield Shield being reduced to a third class competition, the potential test players will no longer be exposed to the fiercely competitive environment that once was State cricket which in turn was a perfect training ground for test matches. Much like county cricket in England in the 80's and 90's . They will shoot themselves in the foot.

Just watching the WA game on the CA website. The Warriors are now reaping the consequences of their lack of specialist batsmen having lost 5 -70 since Shaun Marsh's dismissal. Sure the pink ball is hooping around in the night air but none of the all rounders have really done much to enhance their national prospects tonight. Soft dismissals for Mitch Marsh and Stoinis.

if they are picking the best 6 batsmen in the test team its Cartwright and then daylight for the no.6 role, averages 50 in 1st class cricket.
Eastern States press will disagree no doubt.

Agree Mark - Hilton Cartwright is miles ahead of anyone else.

All this talk about S Marsh batting at 6 for Australia. I think they need to pick someone that bats at 6 and is used to batting with the tail, not an opener.

Good to see Maxwell got stuff all - he doesn't have the temperament or discipline for 5 day cricket. Ussie is racking up the runs, he plays pace bowling beautifully he just cant play the spinners.

The deck in Adelaide must be a good one. what have we had 57 overs - 13 wickets and 140 runs. that game will be over before lunch break on day 3
