FMD are we the only country that gives our national teams pet names? I can’t keep up with it, hence I got told off by Ozfooty principal Swan42 for referring to the women’s hockey team as the Matildas.

42 they have an appalling record for losing in big finals at the Olympics normally as the favourite or in the top 3 in betting.
That would be reasonable grounds to call them 'chokers' I would have thought!

Some more ignorant comments that show a complete lack of understanding of hockey.  I pointed out prior to the matches that both India and Belgium were over the odds they should be for the two medal games.  I would have expected Belgium to have started as favourite in markets in the UK.

Why did you say "favourite or in the top 3 in the betting"?  Why the qualification of top 3 in the betting?  Top 3 would mean  bronze and silver as well as gold.  

Why do you think the German players were so disappointed when they lost the bronze medal game against India?

freezin speaking generally some governments won't put money into non-Olympic sports.  That is one reason sporting associations try to get their sport into the Olympics.

They just dont seem to handle the extra pressure of people actually watching their games at the Olympics all that well, and yet seem to perform far better at the World Cup & Champions Trophy tournaments where there is little to no coverage here in Australia....sounds like choking to me?!?!

Yeah, I think they hold the record for the most failed Gold Medal finals, 5 or 6 finals for 1 Gold, opposed to Pakistan 9 Finals for 8 Gold.

I actually agree, the only time they get mass coverage and pressure is the Olympics. They win when nobodies watching.
