I originated from a Pommy convict who "failed to pay" for a bottle of whisky in 1830 at Leeds & transported to Van Dieman's Land. Put the Australian flag up this morning & having a couple of pies with sauce for lunch. Getting sick of these far right wankers. Noticed Captain Cook's statue painted pink.. Was he GAY? Also just researched when "CIVILIZATION" began. Seems it was about 3500 years BC. Before that "humans" were just uncivilized rabble who did nothing to improve themselves or their kind. Perhaps we should have all gone to America.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi.. It"s a great place to live.

Tony Abbott said it best "on balance British settlement was a good thing for Aboriginal people". But will they ever admit it?

tony's best comment was when he told David Cameron that there would be nothing in Australia without the British people. Advance Australia and God Save the Queen.

AR, if Abbott did say that, it would be a fairly typically ignorant comment on his part.

The French and Dutch were both sniffing around at the time of Cook and later Phillip, and would no doubt have continued with their interest, as both countries were in a mood for colonising.

Tony must remember Australia Day 2015 with some fondness, as that was the beginning of the end for his failed PMship. Who could ever forget Sir Prince Philip, the D of E? :P

Like others here, my origins came from a few people that broke the law - pickpockets an con men. One of them did his time then when released went into business to become wealthy. Even in those days a young Australia could offer anything to those that chased it. Advance Australia Fair and don’t change anything unless it’s for good. Change for changes sake is ridiculous.

who cares and Dutch and French?-- they were failed imeorial powers> The great thing about the British Empire, is that, in its various guises, it has given other peoples places to live.

America,
South Africa
Canada
Australia
New Zealand

only Brazil and Argentina are even remotely comparable, at least historically, but today, as you know, they are failled states.

Now Jack, in relation to Abott, he knightted Phil the Greek on Australia Day to make the point that the country was British.

What a disgrace the protesters were today, yelling stuff in their speeches like "Fuck Australia!, hope Australia burns to the ground"
These people should have been rounded up while they were all there in one spot and dropped off where they are happier. Lucky they were a minority of a minoroty - so pretty small - dont know why the media give them any air time as they do nothing for their cause and create division, but they will NEVER be happy no matter what. Gladly most today including the majority of their own celebrated Australia Day. Move forward together FFS and this country will be even better!

gtr: I would say combination of having to fight the Germans twice, Stalin and Roosevelt; plus, naturally, the people in the colonies wantted their freedom which was understadable. I have always resentted the Russians and Americans for not having the courage to declare war on Hitler. I think Churchill got it right in the finest hour stuff, and, as an Aussie, I am glad we played an important part in it.
