Yep, my happiest days were spent in Regional WA, I would love to go back but the Mrs likes her life in the big smoke to much.

Some goes for South Africa mate - massive money was pummped into the country to hold the games.Durban was going to bid for the Commonewalth games but had to pull out for lack of funds.

Yeah, they held the Soccer World Cup there, wasn't really that great tbh, as for Durban wasn't a goer at all, it also happened to a city in Nigeria that pulled out.

I reckon the KL games were one of the better ones, Delhi was a complete dud, every venue was just about empty.

I still reckon one of the best was the Brisbane Comm games venue and crowd wise, Gold Coast should be good but the traffic and stuff will be a nightmare.

Would love to see Perth have them back, we have the venues ready to rock n roll.

I agree that these awards (OAs and the like) should go to everyday Australians; the good, old Aussie battlers who are not after formal recognition but are more interested in doing something to benefit society.

Archie they do give these awards to ordinary Australians, a mates twin sister and her hubby got the OA for services to children in that they have fostered hundreds of kids over the last 40 odd years and adopted a few to go with their own. They're your average Jo and Joanne, he's a building supervisor and she's a child care worker but quite extraordinary in what they have done for underprivelidged and problem kids.

Fully agree with "your average Jo and Joanne" receiving these awards and long may this continue, Seagull.
It was more a case of Abbott pumping up his own tyres by awarding Phil the Greek a knighthood that irked me.
Nothing against the Windsors who mostly do a good job, but the whole idea of some person getting down on their knees while a monarch taps them on the shoulder with a sword and awards them a knighthood gives me the Edgar Britts.
I guess this is where we differ fundamentally from the Brits (not talking Edgar here).
P.S. As an aside, it's just over a year since jockey Edgar Britt passed away at the grand old age of 103.

TM it does not bother me whether you agree with my statement or not on Brazil and Argentina. Theere a lots of states around the world which exhibit the features of failled states without being so in absolute terms. One of them is a Super Power called America, a state which can't even pass a budget on a periodical basis. The same goes for Victoria and South Australia, here, with their inability to run an electricity grid.

Think about some of the examples I have raised when your going on about Brazil holding the Olympics or even Argentina the world coup. Finally, consider this, Argentina was the richest country in the world in per capitia terms at the turn of the twentieth century. That is a pretty big fall for a state

Just finished listening to the speech.Lot different to the Republican nomination and the Electioneering v Crooked Hillary. There was tough talk but far more mellow than the past.
A lot of the planning for his policy agenda. Mexican walls.infrastructure modernization. American Jobs,Obama care..Modernization of the US Military..Some story's about fallen soldiers in the war against terrorism. Story's about I'll people who have been cured by new wonder drugs. And most interesting despite pressure from Wheat growers and beef producers.Said the TTP doesn't benefit enough people to justify the agriculture missed exported.

I would prefer not think about your examples thanks, your claim that Brazil and Argentina are failed states is about as fact based as stating that the moon is made of cheese.

tm: that's r right -- just for the Olympic Games the government managed to magically remove slums so the country would look good; never mind about letting the slums grow up inthe first place, hey? What was the state doing in the past? I won't bother writting back, as for the most part, you seem in capable of answerring anybody else's question/s?

gtr: good one

Trump is an interestting man, as unlike someone, such as Dick Cheney, whom believes in American triumphalism, he has graspped that America has grave problems.

He should concentrate on the infrastructure programme as this will give the country industrial backbone and provide jobs.

I saw a story on the BBC, gtr, which believe it or not, was moderately pro Trump; the centrepiece of the story notted that as a result of Trump's hardline with industry, the jobs are slowly trickilling back to the working--class. According to the report, the black unemployment rate in Detroit was the lowest ever recorded.
