I reckon Percy stated what most of us have been thinking/saying for years.

For mine this is the clubs very last chance (for a lot of supporters) to get it right, fail again  and the numbers will drift away...never to return!

So what is this club doing, have they conducted any interviews yet, advertised the position?? Has Marty said anything on his regular radio segments? Or is this club going to wait until the end of the season and fight over the best candidate with every other club in the country who is looking for a new coach?

I have to say I have no confidence at all in the current board of directors and administration to get the best bloke out there. I mean how hard is to pick up the phone and arrange a face to face meeting with the bleeding obvious? If they haven't done that already with at least 2 or 3 candidates then they are a waste of space.

What a great opportunity to appoint the next coach NOW, and give him the opportunity to watch the current group of players going around and assess who he wants to keep and who he says goodbye to? I would have thought that is one of the reasons you sack a coach mid season, to get a head start into the following season?? If the people in charge are just sitting on their hands waiting until the end of the season then they need a rocket up their arse.

This was advertised on the media section on the AFL website on the 14/7.

Perth Football Club (PFC) has a proud and historic tradition in the WAFL. It is one of the WAFL’s iconic clubs with a strong sponsor, member & supporter base and whilst finals have eluded the Perth Demons in recent history, sensible off-field management sees the club in a stable position to be able to look positively to the future.

The Club is currently in partnership with the Town of Victoria Park & the West Coast Eagles, with this partnership set to see not only the surrounds around the Lathlain Park precinct developed, but new state of the art facilities built for both Perth & West Coast.

A professional approach & further commitment is now required from the people at Perth to enable the club to focus on sustainable success in the future - on field success will be a major contributor going forward. With this in mind the Senior Coach is central to cementing the Perth Football Club as a key member of the WAFL.

Perth Football Club is now seeking applications for the role of Senior Coach for Season 2015 and beyond. The closing date for applications is July 31, 2014.

Marty said last week he had been speaking to past coaches of the club to try and figure out what has and hasn't worked.

He's spoken to some people about coming onto the committee to select the coach. He then went down the stock standard line about looking through the applicants and going through the process etc... and the committee shortlisting the people they believe should go onto the next phase of the application process and then 1-2 being selected from that and presenting to the board.

The advertisement for the job was came out on Monday and as has been said by others, people have been applying and some people have been allegedly spoken to.

You would think or should I say hope that people in charge have caught up with people such as Harvey, Harris or others for a coffee or even picked up the phone and had a chat. Sounding people out to see where they are at, would be the first thing I would do if I was in an 'in charge' position at the club.

Someone that was mentioned by another poster was Simon McPhee. Apparently he might not be involved at the Saints come the end of the year, He is someone that I would be sounding out as a proven league coach in the WAFL and as a developer of young players. He is someone that would go to the top 1-2 of people I would like to see coach the club.

Sounds good, hopefully we will have a quality appointment by mid August.. Agree re - Simon McPhee . I mentioned him earlier. Great communicator and has runs on the board at colts and league level. Would also have some good contacts in the VFL and former AFLplayers from the east. I reckon him as league coach and Williams as colts coach would be a great combination.

Hey guys n Gals,How about Bill Duckworth. Has had a lot off success granted at the amateur level but he is a premiership player, country lad who communicates extremely well with players particularly juniors. He is very active with the colts and gives great feedback. His credentials as a player and coach are certainly something to be respected.

Im not that keen on McPhee,i dont reckon he's had to work that hard with his teams.
Lets face it Claremont and finals roll off the tongue in one sentence around the time he was coaching.
The Claremont colts was the plum job of that comp and he took over the senior job from Kerr who the players disliked on a huge scale and it showed on the field, they were still a very strong outfit and had some big names on there list at the time,as was proved the 2 full years McPhee had them.
Prior to Kerr/McPhee Claremont had played off in the past 4 Grand finals and another final that they lost, they had strong lists with a few seasoned AFL players.
His record in 3 seasons at Sandringham has been so so.

He is not in my top 3 that i hope we go after.
Just my opinion.

I have to admit I don't understand the logic of advertising for the position. All that will do is attract the time-wasters and unrealistic aspirants. Surely the club knows the landscape well enough to know who might be capable, interested and available - i.e. Harvey, Harris etc? By advertising does it mean that these candidates have turned down a direct approach and thus we have to fish around for other prospects?
