I love it when someone talks up a big game. Can you enlighten us all royallucky about the on ball division that's going to cause us a few headaches? What have you got up front?

I think i can accomadate there DD ive seen enough WAFL football to know the impact a big dominant ruckman has on this WAFL competition.and you only have to look as recently as last year when the Sharks we were hopeless in the early part of last season but then became very competitive once they got the 34 year veteran back GRIFFIN into their line up.This season we will have 6foot eight Scott Jones at our disposal as well as the most Athletic big man in the competition Ajang Ajang who with the return of Jones will give us the luxury of having him spend more time up forward while hes alternating in the ruck and believe you me he will be a nightmare match up for most backman. We also have a top 3 WAFLmidfielder in Jackson Ramsay in the middle as well as an excellent inside mid recruit in Aidan Lynch who accumalated 45 possessions in his 2 matches against the benchmark team in the comp last season as 2 other handy eastern states recruits in Veide and SCHUMACHER as well proven wafl player Rohan Kerr the veteran Paddy Mcginnitty and the the very promising Stan Wright.Up forward we will have a 6foot6 forward target in EDDIE SIMPSON and the mercurial Mitch Dobson whose a match winner on his day but i'll end it there as i'm struggling to see without my glasses!

I like the sound of that DF but i do concede we have deficiencies height wise in our key defensive posts but there is no way we will be going backwards this year

Not going backwards does not necessarily mean going forward. I see the Royals going sideways which mirrors how they play. They have some good IN's though, so i could well be proven wrong - but they would need to start playing with some directness for serious improvement.

I don’t think it will be us, I think our already struggling forward line will struggle some more with the loss of our entire small forward division in Richo, Bradshaw and Treacy. If Tom Lees body can get 8 years younger we’ll be right.

Masten to be a big let down for the Demons, Mitchell to win the Sandover, Sokol to win Bernie (hopefully he gets taken in pre season draft)

What do you base that comment on? I think Masten will feel he's got something to prove and wants to make a, statement that he's still got something to offer at AFL level. There is that carrot of the mid season draft but also I think he will thrive with the young players around him who should be following his lead in terms of preparation. I think he will have a very positive impact both in his own performance and rubbing off on his team mates. I think he'll be an on field and off field leader and I'd say he's already had a massive impact.

Great to get these players who've had a big AFL career come back to the WAFL.

Agreed DD was very happy to see him come back to the WAFL. But like many people I've never had much time for him as a player and just don't think he'll have the effectiveness that Dees supporters hope he will. Yes will provide hard running and a stats sheet with as much ink on it as his body, but like his previous wafl games won't enter the best players list much. However I don't totally disregard him as a player and know that this statement may come back to haunt me in the future.

I think he's one of those players that carries the burden of being an early draft pick. If he was taken pick 34 or 56 instead of pick 3 people would have been saying what a bargain he was and had an outstanding career. But fair to say he didn't quite live up to the hype of a No 3 pick but then you could also say he had a much longer and successful career than a shed load on top ten picks and indeed No 1,2 and 3 picks.

Definitely suffers the burden of being a number 3 pick when being judged, no doubt. But I would argue that that also went a huge way towards getting him 200+ games. His first 100 afl games were ordinary at best and there’s been a hell of a lot of players who would have loved to have had the extended opportunities Masten had.

Itoo had reservations about Matsen when our club made a solid play for his services mainly due to the fact he was'nt the big bodied inside mid we desperately needed as well as his at times ineffective ball use,but youv'e got to look at him like a horse who drops down in grade and generally have a class edge against inferior opposition, and in MAtsens case he will find alot more time and space at the slower WAFL tempo and in theory use it a lot better.

Masten was never an inside mid. With the Eagles he was an outside runner.
As I have allude to previously, he is an elite runner with a big tank, hence his 2km record with WCE.
I don't think for a moment that he will play much time as an inside mid. His upside for the Dees IMO will be the role he excels at..ie the hard running wingman that he played so well for WCE.
Time will tell.
