Agree a WACA reconfigured for footy would be a big boost for the comp, last years GF was around 25k and just under 19k for this year is a joke in a vast stadium like Optus, plus you would think the WACA would be looking for any additional usage they can get. Boutique stadium with 25k capacity would be ideal. From memory there was a plan for the WACA where all WAFL finals would be played there, plus the TV game of the week so poor old Ch7 can leave their telecast set-up in one spot. There would need to be a compensation package for the teams that lose their home ground income for the TV games, but I think it would be a very good way forward. Plus the TV games can be night games given the excellent lights at the WACA, maybe the finals can be tried as sunset/night games. If 26k is the break even for an Optus game it wont ever happen so that $150k loss that will happen most years can be put towards the WACA option. Just makes sense to have a mostly full stadium, better atmosphere and looks so much better on TV.

The current WACA Ground Improvement Project envisages a capacity of 10,000, which can be temporarily increased to a maximum of 15,000.

The ground would also be reconfigured to accommodate AFL, which it certainly couldn't do with the current configuration.

Perhaps Subi can be made to finance a new footy stadium for WAFL finals footy, as one way of equalizing the comp, by draining their large bank account....

-- money
-- recruits
-- training
-- ethos

in that order for Subi's success. It is accepted that Subi does train more, which is going to make you a better side; but, this is where, one must also take into consideration the money, because the club has the resources to support the extra training programme.

All four things taken together explain Subiaco's success.

Then there are the wider factors which are down to the commission

- refusal to cut some of Subi's payments over decades
- refusal to try and lift the draft age with AFL
- introduction of Fremantle
- introduction of Peel
- alignments
- afl clubs

ROMAN - Yep see my earlier post.

Doubted playing there was a good idea, but seeing it first hand confirmed all my fears.

Even with the entire top deck closed it was still woeful, you could of closed the middle deck as well and it would of still looked like a collection of plastic seats. You could put 30K ( no chance of that now) there and it would still look empty,

Absolutely ridiculous venue to hold a small scale community based comps final, you wouldn't hold a Sheffield shield final there , so why the WAFL GF knowing the implications?? Just braindead.

$150,000.00 of what should of been money better spent down the tube.

I'm told the 3 year deal expires next year, so at least one more GF there in the giant concrete morgue.

The other thing to note is transport there is based on Transperth, who refused to put on any special buses or trains for the day as you need minimum expected capacity of 30K up to warrant expense for that.

Ark, the introduction of Fremantle Dockers has been the biggest body blow to the two Fremantle based wafl clubs in 150 years!

The WACA - Sooner they do it the better.

15K with atmosphere a lot better...

Take the freeloaders out of the boxes and free ticket bums, and the real crowd at a WAFL GF would be about 15k, if it sells out then well and good!

Have double header finasl there as well under lights, do something different FFS!

And every time they play there, they should be made to kick into the wind for the entire game.

And at the WACA that would be a real challenge.

Its a real pity Perth Oval has been lost.

It would of been ideal to redevelop as a new HQ for WAFL, 15-20K ground.
