Stand the Test wrote: Totally agree with your posts Bazza. I am certain that most clubs would be happy with a 75% win record over 5 years and would not see the need to recruit to get to 100%. I think most clubs would not have seen a need to recruit say Harry marsh after winning prems in all 3 grades.
Its unbelievable really, we are going into a pretty good prelim and I’m not sure many give a FF given the reward is a flogging in the GF.
But seriously good luck to your mob, to cover the losses you had, hams, Saunders, cook, hockey dellio etc from within and got as far as you have. V impressive

Now you two are really making yourselves sound like flogs...delusional

Ted Nugent wrote: The attendance figures quoted in this thread do not augur well for the GF. Who knows, maybe a dismal crowd might alert the WAFC that there is a problem? Obviously enough, GF crowds are bolstered by casual fans of the two finalists, plus neutrals who attend for the spectacle. Trouble is, there will be no spectacle, just a a two hour formality before handing the cup to Subi. Claremont are not well supported generally. Souths usually are, but this season's figures have been remarkably low. It's hard to imagine casual Souths turning out in numbers to watch a 10 goal drubbing. Subi fans will probably turn up in reasonable numbers, but if the turn out from the opposition and neutrals is low because of the inevitability of the result, it is very hard to see a crowd in excess of 15,000. Anyway, I'll predict 12,500. I won't be one of them.

I already know ertswhile hard core SFFC people who have already advised me the cbf going if we make it, its a real concern.

That's only a small part. I'd of thought other problems would need addressing. What's become of the previous Wafl questionnaires or surveys that were circulating around? Doesn't seem to be too much action happening to improve things in the Wafl. The competition has been on it's way out since 2014 crowd wise. I can remember from about 2004 to 2012, the Wafl attendances were pretty damn good. There was a lot more media interest as well back then. Forward to 2014 until now and it's just crap.

2015 was sure fire flag, then two fake flags, then another sure fire flag and this year a fatal flag.
How much do you think the comp can cope with?

Top few killers of the WAFL in recent years.

1. Subi dominance
2. Peel/Fremantle Peel Alignment
3. Peel GF wins with stacked teams
4. Introduction of Eagles team
5. Suction of AFL players from orginal teams to aligned clubs
6. Epic decline of historic teams like EFFC
7. Collapse of media interest/broadcasting
8. Age demographic of WAFL people
9. Lack of interest from youth
10. Eagles and Dockers both making GFs.

Bazza at No 1 should be the complete indifference by the WAFC flogs to even attempt to equalise the comp, they cant wait for the WAFL to expire so they can do what the AFL want and that is for all state leagues to be u/23 comps, pure feeder comps for the insatiable AFL beast.

Yes for mine the culprit who should shoulder the blame for 1 to 10 inclusive is the WAFC.

The expansion of the AFL with 2 extra teams. An extra Saturday afternoon match clashing with Wafl matches.
Alignment MKII and the introduction of West Coast's own team.Subiaco's dominance over the last decade.
Maby Perth+East Perth +Swans making the finals will help. But it does appear traditional Wafl supporters are disappearing slowly.
Have to say having been to at least a dozen Wafl games in 2019.The glory days of the 1960's+70's+80's are long gone. With fast tempo high scoring traditional Wa footy.Replace by matches where both sides together score 15 goals a game. Not each team with 30 goal matches.

stt it is not a woeful crowd, it is on tele --when they put the grand final on tele in 1986 the crowd fell back to 30,000, usually more like, 45,000 in those days, as you know.

I have never seen such a level of disinterest in a finals series. Nothing for Subi to worry about watching that game - as if they would worry anyway. Subi could bring forward their end of year trip, spend the next week getting shitfaced, fly in on Sunday morning, drive straight to Optus, arrive at 2pm and still coast to victory.
