yes but we're one suburb across from Subi not up near the Tropic of Capricorn.

Just think of the marketing potentials: the Leederville Lions versus the Leederville Royals. But to get back to the topic, there may be some financial benefit in the renaming of West Perth; however, it won't resolve the fundamentals underlying the lack of integrity and viability of the WAFL at this present point in time.

WP have had a vaporising supporter base in last few years, and the callers that called into the radio today didn't sound to impressed with the way things had gone.

some other interesting points raised this morning on supporters.

Gareth Parker has established that , smaller donations and sponsorship had collapsed in recent years.

Also the accountant that called in after, about the "undisclosed debts" , he stated they can only be two things.

1. Invoices received that were never recorded he said that would be a breach of accounting duties.

or

2 casual debt payment agreements entered into that are now being followed up on by those that had been promised repayment.

he's probably right but that sounds like fairly ad-hoc sort of stuff not $600k's worth....or closer to $1m I think you put it at. That's a big chunk of change for a sporting club that probably only turns over a couple of mill in any given year.

Its a bit like this we know at least 200,000 is owed to the ATO,,,first question is , how does a WAFL club wrack up $200K tax debt? Its must be years of GST non payment..that's a huge financial diligence issue for a start.
Then there was a few hundred outstanding to Venues West, in other words , they haven't paid rent for quite sometime...more basic diligence gone awol..

then theres the un documented debt...which is black hole...

and now on top of that... you can add the $250K they were lent yesterday , that will have to be recovered and the $50K a member gave them last week to pay the players, assuming he wants it repaid...???

Ones things certain we will get some honesty for WAFL people with Korda Mentha in there, a former CEO might have some questions to answer.

Thanks for the heads up DD, although I did spit out my coffee when Gavin Taylor started talking about the "integrity of the WAFL competition"

In terms of the integrity he was coming from was , having a comp with a mid season additional by caused by the team sitting second no longer taking the field, because that was about 1 week away from happening. the 250k handed over by the WAFC has prevented that.

Yes I too could not believe the integrity comment!
It's 5 years too late talking of the integrity of the Wafl competition I'd thought

We are not the first club to have money troubles and won't be the last. We have seen clubs like Richmond, Collingwood rattle tins throughout their history and not that long ago.
Clearly the board responsible must step aside. Most footy clubs live in a world of undisclosed something, most are payments however not debts.
Being my club I am very disappointed but I will back their plan into moving forward. I also have no issue with the name change, West Perth football club trading as the Joondalup Falcons. The members and supporters will never call them Joondalup when they are watching them though.
Surely the WAFC can organise with West perth to rattle the tins at all AFL games left at Optus stadium this year. Or maybe even just Derby day. I am sure even the others clubs supporters don't want West Perth gone and would be happy to hand over a few bucks.
I reckon Commetti and Zempilas will organises something where all proceeds go to West Perth.
My company will be donating to them and I personally will do my bit to help out.
Sad state of affairs but the joy this club has given me throughout my life it is a no brainer to help. I hope all Falcons fans feel the same and also the WAFL fans in general.

Yep. GWS, you are going to need a very big save our Falcons movement.

Just on other clubs, I don't thick Richmond or Collingwood went into administration, the only club I know that ever happened to was Fitzroy.

Nice to hear from you gws...yes, I think most WAFL supporters would chip in to save your mob...I know I would. WP and Subi supporters have hated each other over the ages for a variety of reasons but I'm pretty sure I can speak for all Lions fans that we certainly don't want to see your club fold.

Cheers BC, I have always got raffle tickets and supported the Lions when I am up in their bar. It's just the right thing to do.

I was thinking last night about all the good times I have had at the club, all the good people I have met and the life long friends that I have met because of this club, the thought of it disappearing has disturbed me in the last week and I just hope the club can get back on its feet, once you have been involved with a club most of your life it is hard to let go.
I would never follow another WAFL club as I just don't have the passion to do so, so if the WPFC did get wound up it would be the closing chapter for me and my interest in the WAFL comp.
As much as I hate to say it, but if a name change would save the club I would agree with it, only because it will always be the WPFC to me anyway.

Yes mate...I understand where you're coming from. I think back to the FG days and the arguments we'd all have with Vince, Buddhaguts, Cardy just to name a few and Po Cocko, Vin Cattogio and Subi Girl on my side.....brilliant times and lot's of laughs.
