The 9 games SD V EP.WP.SF where all over 10,000.
The 3 SD V WP matches where over 15,000.

Yes mate, great crowds, I seem to recall a big crowd v Claremont as well, Derby crowds were down due to EF poor form but the year before were 20K plus.

BH, GTH, Overall SD had a good year rememberring they came up from fifth in 1979. It is true that SF had your measure after round seven, which is common in sport. In 1973 lost every game against WP until the grand final and beat EP in every game by, includding the prelimanry final by narrow margins.

Can anyone re-call the following game:

SD 26.14
S 19.17?

SD were leadding 16 goals to 2 goals at half-time

BAZ: It was good that you won in 1980, because it would have been an injustice if such a talentted side had not won at least one flag.

Dont remember that game Ark .But do remember R12.Swans had a narrow win over Subi got there 12 in a row and 20k.
The game made national headlines for the wrong reasons. After the game the Subi visitors and changroom had not been cleaned from a game played there the previous Sunday. Not a Wafl game.Baths where full of dirty water and beer bottles.Showers where not working. It was a wet rainy day. From memory the shire got the blame.

A real tale of 2 halves AR, Simon the Pieman kicked a lazy 9 whilst Munro bagged 7 for your mob.
How often has a side kicked 17 goals in a half of footy and still lost by 7 majors I wonder?

Yep a relief, but scant return from 3 outstanding years tbh.

I remember seeing Neil Randall slicing up East Fremantle in the first Fremantle Derby of 1980 - think he bagged 4 or 5 goals and South Fremantle won by 17 goals

1980 saw the continuation of 100 plus totals for the top spearheads in the WANFL leading into 1981 which was the highest ever scoring season.

The crowds were simply amazing given the population level of Perth at the time , it continued too

Some games were downright ferocious out in the Boneyard pews

Didnt Simon kick the winner from a fair way out Gtr?
Got a feeling Toddy let them know all about it too after the siren.

Actually another point about 1980 was it was the first year the WANFL dropped the N and became the WAFL.
