a more lucrative deal for the WAFL ?

what planet are you on ?
in 2015 the WAFL paid $100k for the deal plus each clubs 8k marketing deal..

Which is roughly the same as they were paying the ABC, for fewer viewers. The Tax Payer the rest.

So how do you expect them to get anything back?

Remember its up for renewal end of next year.

At least I'm not on the planet bitter and twisted.

planet bitter and twisted, I will have to remember that when i renew my Swans membership next year and give my money to a WAFL club..

hopefully all those extra viewers we are getting do the same or even remember the name of a wafl player they saw on tv, go down and buy a wafl jumper and come to a wafl game..

I know its been a tough season for your crew, but buck up your clubs sponsors are getting more commercial coverage to more viewers than in many years.

when i see evidence that a WAFL clubs bottom line is enhanced then i will be a supporter.
currently there are less people going so clubs are taking a hit over the gate and bar, memberships would be down but we should all be doing handstands over more people sitting in front of a tv box watching a wafl game that the clubs had to pay to get on tv..

the world is going well when we use our marketing money to encourage people to sit on the couch instead of going to a game.

The bottom line has already improved via alignment cash.

Clubs gates are chicken feed even before that,

So let me ask you this, would it be a good thing if less people were watching wafl as well as less attending ganes?

Or is it at least a postive that more than double the previous number are watching the footy? Glass half full me thinks.

I agree with you bazza.I know the importance of sponsors and how much money they bring in.Every club is different but I know where I come from that the gate/membership/bar and merchandise contributes less then 15 percent of revenue whilst sponsorship, wafc contributions and functions revenue bring in over 70 per cent of revenue.lose a sponsor and you will have to get a lot of people to come thru the gate.I would think most sponsors would happier with the current situation.

All very interesting comments. I notice the attendance for week 19 is very low. The lowest week 19 of fixtures since 2010. The 18th week fixtures were also the lowest for many years. Two very low attended rounds in succession is a worry! Currently the qualifying round attendances are over 19% down at the corresponding time from last season.
Which raises an interesting question.
Suppose crowd numbers keep plummeting, and say a total of 10 or 15% less people attend Wafl qualifying matches next season? And in the not too distant future, say only a total attendance of 1,000 or less for a round becomes the norm?
Surely the 7 Wafl clubs can't survive off tv ratings and tv sponsorship deals alone?
Just asking.

Spot on , sadly not many of the commentators here really understand the financials of WAFL clubs as they stand today.
