Rival backdown ensures WAFL telecasts

The telecast of the WAFL grand final has now been guaranteed after Channel 9 back down over its sponsorship of club West Perth.Official league broadcaster Channel 7 has threatened to not show the preliminary and grand finals if West Perth persisted in wearing the rival sponsor. But thewest.com.au understands Channel 9 and the WA Football Commission came to an agreement today. It is believed the Falcons will wear the logo of charity, Variety, on their jumpers for televised matches.West Perth matches have not been shown this season because of the sponsorship conflict. The Channel 9 sponsorship is believed to be worth $100,000 in cash and contra a year for three seasons to the Falcons. The WAFC has already ruled West Perth in breach of its playing licence and has flagged the potential to seek damages for the commission, its broadcast sponsors and other WAFL clubs. As part of the new deal it is believed the WAFC will make a $25,000 donation to Variety.Channel 7 managing director Mario D'Orazio said, "We are delighted to be broadcasting West Perth matches on TV".

Whilst it is a step in the right direction, has too much damage been done?
The debacle should never have happened in the first place.
Surely heads will need to roll?

So the WAFC are paying $25,000 to rectify the WAFC's stuff-up. Hopefully, the $25,000 is coming out of the salary of G Walton et al.

WAG do you really think that anyone from the WAFC will lost their jobs over this debacle? It is more likely for me to suddenly become an Eagles' supporter and vote Liberal at the next Federal election than for anyone at the WAFC to be sacked over this.

As I predicted Ch 9 logo is gone from the WP Jumper, WAFC have had a win.

CH 7 Gets it way, WPFC and Ch 9 backs down, it was obvious a week ago they had nowhere to go.

Bazza still waiting for your proof that the ABC had made a decision to not telecast the WAFL this season. In the absence of such proof, one can only deduce that you were making it up.

It is an interesting interpretation that the WAFC 'have had a win' when what it has shown is the gross incompetence of the WAFC.

I didnt know you required proof for something that was announced publicly, ,btw are they doing SANFL Or VFL...answer is no.

The only incompetence has been with big mouth Raponi, who in the end dumped the Ch 9 logo , all while twittering he would not do it , ordering jumpers in preparation to do it.

Complete bullshit artist and you clowns got sucked in by it,

According to C Wheeldon NO DECISION had been made with respect to televising the WAFL footy in 2015. The indication was that the WAFC made the decision NOT the ABC.

West Perth were always going to back down. They'd backed themselves into a corner and had no way out other than to remove the 9 logo.

Raponi has made himself look like a fool.... and not for the first time.
