I watched Saturdays game against the Bulldogs from near the interchange area and noticed that 'The Coach' was not the coach. As strange as this may sound let me explain........There was a club official sitting alongside the dug out with a laptop ringing the changes....no messages from the coaches box required as no phone was in sight. Players coming off in groups of 4 confused about the changes, yelling at the computer boy that they had just been off and what the fu## was going on. Not once did a message come down from the coaches box advising what changes needed to be made on the ground. The only time the players got a message from the coach was at the main breaks 1/4 time etc.....The team runners took their instructions from the computer boy.

Is this the sign of things to come? Because if it is....it makes for a horrible game to watch as it's no longer about the players and their ability, but how much ground time they have. I now know why players come off the ground when they kick a goal in the AFL....it's all about computer boy.

I pity the players next season if this is going to be the norm as they have no idea on what is going on.

I wonder if other clubs are doing the same thing?

I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the game......guess not.

Computer Boy hey...Is that Worsfolds new nickname?? :P
In all seriousness tho OER one of the worst things to happen to football in my 33 years in the game is the complete involvement of sports science ..oh for the good old days of just beating your opponent for 100 minutes on the field!

Hey BH thanks for you reply....totally agree with your comments about 100 minutes of hard football.

Not sure if this is a WCE thing or not, but when senior players are coming off confused about what is going on (WCE players included) then we seriously have to worry about where our great game is going.

yes this obscene rotation process with footy is over the top.

i actually think it will be so off-putting for kids, they could be turned off the sport. it is overkill and takes away no only momentum and solidarity for a footballer, but basic enjoyment.

our code is outsmarting itself. too much bullshite everywhere.

dont know if any of you saw it yesterday on channel 7. they showed the 1974 grand final and watching this type of footy just bought a tear to my eye. players all kicking torpedoes (quite well i might add) and everyone playing in a position. nobody kicked backwards and when teams went forward, their was no open forward line. there was a full forward waiting to the kick to come in. the commentary was articulate and precise and the camera work was brilliant. camera angles these days are so terrible, the players look like ants. anyway just my 2bobsworth.

as for EP coaching, get used to crazy stuff like this next year. our club is not for us to worry about anymore. we dont have control, members get used to it im afraid. will be a big eye opener next year for some of you people.

It's called player rotation, it has been happening in all levels of football for years. No one is dragged for doing something wrong anymore.

The fellow with the laptop is the Fitness Coordinator , every club has one or two, the rotation is based on the Satellite measurements that are directly loaded onto the laptop, every club does it, the rotation process is an agreed process between the coach/es and the sports staff same as other clubs and so it goes on same as other clubs.

It helps if you know rather than guess and suggest, all you have to do is ask the club.

The rotation policy varies between clubs some have a high end process whilst others not so much but determined by players. It happens down to colts level based on time on the field rather than the distance travelled and time.

Will it increase under the full alignment,NO! happens now!

Disagree with that ... Spent the day in the Swans coaches box and certainly a few got "dragged" for poor attack, defense etc.

Its just not as prolific as it once was. ie 50M penalty etc you got dragged.

GRUMP, one or two fitness coordinators? Based on satelite measurements directly loaded onto laptops? Every club does it? It helps if you know rather than guess, Just ask your club? Well i did and we do not have satelite gps nor do we have a couple of fitness coordinators. who's guessing now!!! WCEP are probably the only club that can now afford this crap other than PD. Will it increase in 2014 under the full takeover of EP? You bet it will......for WCEP and PD anyway. To try and say that WCEP and PD will not have a massive unfair advantage is simply living in denial mate!!! EAST PERTH IS A DISGRACE AND THE SOONER YOU FOLD THE BETTER!
