Cricket paying more I would say TI EM.
I smell a rat. Maybe a bit more to it than that. Maybe CA have thrown their weight around and there is fear of missing out on test cricket in future.
Same thing Cricket has more pull financially that WAFL and Optus would of booked the international stuff in way back.

Did anyone see the financials from last years WAFL GF? Given the WAFL lost money on the previous Optus GFs , it would be interesting to see what CA paid compared to what WAFL paid to use the stadium.
Evidently they have more pull but not sure the 'financially' argument is valid here. It looks like Optus stadium will sit empty on the day that 15K will be shut out of the totally inappropriate and unsuitable venue being used elsewhere for the GF. Optus stadium is actually losing revenue on this one. What sort of business would be happy with that? But priorities have been revealed.

The WAFC, who as we all know are overseeing the WAFL GF, are more than happy with the arrangement. Optus needs to look nice for the England and  Afghanistan 20 overs a side game on the 22nd of October. Football would just mess up the surface. No sweat for the WAFC. Just play the GF at a venue that typically has to manage with 1500 people turning up for a game. After all the GF at Freo Oval (can't quite remember how that fiasco came about) back in 2020 was supposedly a nice little money spinner and was officially a 'success'.

The contrarian though only needs to point out that it looks like 20 K missed out on attending that one. Hardly the way to promote the WAFL is it but who cares! Those lucky enough (whether it was good or bad is debatable) to attend had to sit on a concrete slab for the duration with no protection from the weather. How suitable that is for the little ones is questionable. Then there is the problem with a lack of other basic amenities. None of which the WAFC or Peter Christie would have to deal with on the day of course. And never mind the players missing out on what could be a once in lifetime chance to play on the biggest and best ground in the state either.

Apparently JT has proposed an interesting option, that is to play the WAFL GF as a mid-week night game at Optus which imho would be sensational. But to do that it would need to be in the week before the AFL GF as the week after, the drop in pitches go in for the hit n giggle. That can be done if we get rid of the unwarranted late season bye. The game could be played the Monday or Tuesday week after the pre-lim, so there's a good break after the pre-lim, makes sense to me. It does make things a bit problematic for the ressies and colts. having the 3 games all on the same day should never be changed.

Why couldn't they have the WAFL GF on Monday 26th Sept at Optus which is 2 days after the AFL GF? It's the Queens birthday public holiday and will give them almost 2 weeks to get the pitch and outer ready for Oct 9 T20.

No idea BC, but clearly they have ruled it out.

From what I've been told Mike McKenna said that it couldn't be done on the weekend of 24/25.  Apparently they had to be talked into having it at Optus last year as well.

Havent they got a aflw game on there that weekend underlights Mr AFL?
That should be moved to a suburban ground where it belongs and the WAFL GF moved to Perth Stadium in its place!

McKenna is a Kiwi muppet who wouldnt know (or care) the first thing about the WAFL or its history, very much like our current Premier except he is a Cockroach from NSW not a Kiwi....god help us if we are looking at the Sports Minister for intervention Mr "Attend Events" Templeton!

yeah isn't that true
there's no way Leederville will be up to it surface wise - it'll need a vast returf
