I thought this issue about playing the WAFL  grand final at anywhere but Optus was dead and buried,a booking is a booking, why should our showcase game be forced aside for stupid tip and run cricket, surely the WAFC  could have legally stood their ground to play the GF on the agreed date, and told stadium authorities to tell cricket to stick it up their arse and play the pyjama game at the WACA.

Obviously not dead and buried. A comment made on this very forum donkeys years ago on this subject is now clear as day.

There is a one day interstate cricket game scheduled for the WACA on  Saturday 1st October so scuppered by cricket at both major venues. Leederville or Bassendean for me, with lots of portaloos at either venue

Even if the WACA was available, it's capacity is about the same as Eagles Park or Claremont as it's in the middle of a redevelopment. 2020 at Freo oval attracted about 11k, so somewhere with a similar capacity is needed and the only other options are Leederville and Basso. Joondy is just too far away as is Rushton, MRP and Claremont way too small.

The most likely grand final at this stage appears to be between EF & Joondy so you would expect a lot of interest from punters to go and see that matchup, so its a real shame that Optus is gone as that game would easily match last years attendance.

A shame the WACA is not available as it would of been ideal.

Anyway the council/ground with the best bid will win, I understand Bassendean has already been ruled out ( not sure why) leaving Joondalup and Leederville, and Fremantle, the surface at Leederville is not the best and from memory the Town of Vincent showed no interest last time around.

Joondy is just not central enough for most people.

I would hope with a longer lead up a lot more prep can go into Fremantle should it win the bid and there will be no Covid crowd limits with a bit of work additional temp seating extra facilities, 15,000 should get in there.

Well they have hushed this shambles up. What a disgrace that there is talk of a pointless cricket game having priority over our GF on the 1st of October. How can they have it a Freo oval as many found out at the recent derby they don't even have functioning toilets. Though I can't think of a more suitable building to take a leak on.

I smell a rat. Maybe a bit more to it than that. Maybe CA have thrown their weight around and there is fear of missing out on test cricket in future.

I tend to agree TE......although after how CA have treated WA cricket fans over the last few years missing out on Test Matches (last here at Perth Stadium was Dec 19 vs NZ) we should tell CA to go get f@#$*!
I am not sure how you can cancel a WAFL GF with an attendance likely to be 30k despite being booked in for months to hold a meaningless T20 game that would be lucky to attract 10k. I love my cricket but that is just a hit and giggle exhibition game that means nothing!

Who is going to compensate the local football industry several hundred K  in revenue for being forced to play at a unsuitable venue,if last years GF attendance was anything to go by.The WAFC should remind the stadium operators where their bread is being buttered, can you imagine a several billion multi purpose stadium surviving primarily on the proceeds from cricket???they'd do their arse with in 12 months.
