really disappointing the WAFC still hasn't brought out a statement on what they're doing about this nor what has happened to their booking
This is what they're set up to do in managing WA football

Very true. We are treated like children. No need to provide us with an explanation. The WAFC don't give a shit that the WAFL GF is not played on a fitting and suitable stage. Time to sell back the licenses to the AFL and give the proceeds back to the 8 clubs.

A shame the WACA is not available as it would of been ideal.

Anyway the council/ground with the best bid will win, I understand Bassendean has already been ruled out ( not sure why) leaving Joondalup and Leederville, and Fremantle, the surface at Leederville is not the best and from memory the Town of Vincent showed no interest last time around.

Joondy is just not central enough for most people.

I would hope with a longer lead up a lot more prep can go into Fremantle should it win the bid and there will be no Covid crowd limits with a bit of work additional temp seating extra facilities, 15,000 should get in there.
I know anything can happen between now and the GF, but there’s a real chance that there will be at least 1 team outside the”big four” playing for the flag.  Ideally there will be 2, so I believe that could attract another 5-7k that wouldn’t normally go to watch the same o same o.  There’s 4 “outsiders’ that could make it.  They have a chance here to get a real bumper crowd on top of what they normally would get, so they need to choose carefully.  No point in picking a venue that has a 10k limit and have 25k sitting outside the gates wishing they could get in.

Freeze regardless of who gets in there is no venue large enough in Perth anymore to hold 25K outside of Optus.

It will probably be around the 15K mark tops.

Sounds unbelievable as we had quite a few in the 70s, Perth Oval, Leederville, Fremantle Bassendean could all hold 20 plus, as could the WACA and of course Subi.

Cricket paying more I would say TI EM.
I smell a rat. Maybe a bit more to it than that. Maybe CA have thrown their weight around and there is fear of missing out on test cricket in future.
Same thing Cricket has more pull financially that WAFL and Optus would of booked the international stuff in way back.

Did anyone see the financials from last years WAFL GF? Given the WAFL lost money on the previous Optus GFs , it would be interesting to see what CA paid compared to what WAFL paid to use the stadium.

There was no need for a WAFL Bye Round for the WAFL W GF and another Bye Round coming out. Take out these two weeks and you have the GF the week before the AFL GF like it used to be. But no, the WAFC think that the week after the AFL GF works best. They should have known the risk of cricket bumping it off Optus Stadium as October is cricket season. The WAFC are clearly at fault here.

As a society we are a lot more health and safety conscious in 2022 compared to the 1960s, 70s & 80s when most of the WAFL grounds had their respective record crowds between 20k-27k.
Not too mention all bar Bassendean Oval to the least extent have had major works built on their premises that have reduced capacity significantly in the last 30 years.

Fremantle Oval- the old Dockers HQ and public carparks on site would have reduced their capacity by at least 5k
Claremont Oval- virtually no outer at all left, now surrounded by apartments
East Fremantle Oval- currently not in use waiting for new development to take place
Leederville Oval- the building of both the Subi HQ and the Loftus Centre & Town Of Vincent HQs has reduced its capacity especially on the outer wing bank
Lathlain Park- most of the outer on the Eastern bank and behind Southern end goals all gone for Eagle HQ and training oval
WACA- currently a construction site on the northern side and behind goals at Eastern/Scoreboard end is a sandpit atm, plus cricket taking back the ground from September
Perth Oval- changed to a rectangular venue for soccer & rugby
Subiaco Oval- grandstands all removed now only used for the Bob Hawke College school oval
Bassendean Oval- the only change to the Oval since the ground record vs WP was achieved in 1980 would be the Swan Can bar on the outer wing next to scoreboard.
For those who obviously havent attended the ground for sometime there are new changerooms (built for the SD womens side) on the Eastern side of the SDFC members that could be utilised if the Billy Walker Stand rooms are not considered adequate enough for a GF, those could then accommodate the umpires if necessary. For the whining media types the players room at the bottom of the Percy Bright Lounge could be utilised for commentators and or the old coaches box for 91.3 who havent commentated a game from Basso for years anyway and might need directions to get there!

Arena Joondalup- located in South Geraldton
Rushton Park- located in North Bunbury

For what its worth I have always said the WAFL GF should be held at Perth Stadium and will never waiver from that, the biggest State based Sporting Competition in WA deserves to be played at the biggest and best Stadium!

If it's purely based on capacity then Basso would be the one, standing room capacity must be around 20k?
The other options are Freo and leederville that would max out at 15k ish.

It has to be Bassendean Oval. You would easily still get 20,000 in there and there is plenty of room around the ground such as the Bassendean Rd side for other activities

Getting there will be an issue for non-swans supporters as it's so far away from everything. The 51 bus up Guildford Road won't work as it would take all day to get there and longer to get home, Success Hill train station is a bit of a walk and I don't think it could withstand 10,000 people in a small space of time anyway and if you drive, where are punters supposed to park?

I'm not sure what the answer is but don't think it's Basso unless they put on shuttle buses from various places around the metro area and include the cost in the price of a ticket.
