Also when talking about these votes we’re talking about different eras, the Eagles vote was taken 34 years ago, times were far different it’s easy in hindsight to reflect on decisions. Also just because clubs vote in favour of something doesn’t mean they truly want it, the choice may be between survival or perish. Damned if you do damned if you don’t. Why did clubs vote for Peels entry? Was there a (much needed) cash carrot?

Possibly TOO but no one has been as cash strapped as SD have in the last 34 years especially in the late 80s & 90s when those decisions were made and yet we voted NO for all 3 new franchises- WCE, Freo & Peel as our club knew the irreparable damage it would do to the WAFL and Billy Walker was absolutely spot on the money in his prediction!

BH you are spot on,
Though in relation to the Eagles, Billy Walker was in SA with other WAFL reps discussing the formation of a national comp when the Boss of WANFL another Walker with no vote from the clubs signed WA to join the VFL.

The Board instructed Catalano to vote against it.
He was the culprit not PFC.

That would have to be the biggest BS line I have heard, there is nothing incorrect about it The president of Perth cast the vote on behalf of the PFC, and that's what counts not what ever machinations happened behind the scenes.

There are only two clubs that can hold their head up since 1987 and that's SDFC and SFFC on every vote that counted. If two or three clubs had stood up in the same what along side them we would not be in the mess we are now.

One of the largest disasters to emanate from the Mandurah decision has been the shockingly skewiffed zones - Badly affected south of the river clubs Swan Districts , Perth , South Fremantle and East Perth suffered from their yes vote by losing tracts of their deep south zones but Perth copped some Eastern District losses for theirs too
A lot of the Metropolitan area hardly reflects each club's locale since 1997

A dogs breakfast is what I would use to sum up the metro zones these days Southy.
I played 90% of my junior footy in the Perth zone which followed the Albany Hwy & Canning River route from Vic Park/South Perth all the way along both to Armadale & Roleystone and it is unbelievable to think they along with Kelmscott, Forrestdale are no longer in Perth's zone.
Similar for Swans I can distinctly remember when the first shovel was stuck in the ground to begin the City Of Swan Ellenbrook development in the 90s the SDFC was on hand and the excitement of our first metro area development in our zone since the 1970s was about to begin and what that area could mean to us 10-20 years down the track....only for the WAFC to just hand it to EP just as it was about to reap some dividends for that long game wait.....unbelievable!

So, SFFC can hold their heads high over every decision since 1987? Funny, I seem to recall them being the Dockers host club for 3 years.
