To all our valued members, partners and stakeholders,

We are currently in challenging and unprecedented times, as the entire world seeks to understand and mitigate the risks posed by the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

The football industry is working collaboratively to understand and tackle this highly complex issue, and we as a WAFL football club are being led by advice from the AFL, and the WAFC, who in turn are being led by the relevant Health authorities.

Like everyone else in the community, the South Fremantle Football Club is concerned about how things will progress over the next few weeks and months. We do know that the club needs to work diligently to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our players, coaches, staff, members, partners and supporters.

Rest assured, that the Board, management and staff understand your concerns and anxiety about COVID-19 and as a result, will advise you as soon as we can offer updates and/or decisions on the way forward for our Club and football in WA, noting that we are now operating in a rapidly changing environment.

Our ongoing and highest priority remains the health and well-being of all South Fremantle people, including that of our players, staff, members and supporters. This means that, for the near future at least, pre-arranged, and to-be-arranged club events and functions will be postponed for a period that is at this stage, undefined. Advice of events and functions will be provided to you in regular updates.

Advice received as of Monday March 16:

The AFL wishes to advise that following a meeting with AFL State CEOs a collective decision has been made to postpone the operation and/or the commencement of each premier State League and national and state talent program across the country.

The decision was collectively agreed upon based on the part-time nature of these competitions and the financial implications for the State League clubs and State Leagues.

This decision is effective until May 31.

The AFL will continue to explore all fixturing alternatives to ensure matches are played, however, acknowledges the situation is fluid and any decision made may change.

As you will be, we are all extremely disappointed that the 2020 season is to be affected so dramatically by this public health emergency. In this, our 120th year, we must remain united and optimistic that we will get to mark the anniversary with some great footy and fun, as we celebrate all that is special about the South Fremantle Football Club.

Our members and partners are a loyal bunch, and we call upon this loyalty right now, in a period when our great Club and the game itself is under significant threat.

These are unique and evolving times, and our commitment to you is to communicate clearly, honestly and often.

Thank you once again for your support. We will be in contact with you as soon as more information comes to hand. Please look after yourself and those around you, especially our communities' most vulnerable.

Go Bulldogs

The whole season looks likely to be canned now.
With old scott telling australians to avoid domestic travel except for essential services. NSW, the NT and I believe South Australia have closed their borders and any travellers entering need to isolate for 14 days. Will only be a matter of time before the WA govt do the same. Then of course the premier will next announce in the not too distant future that unnecessary travel within WA be restricted. Already heard bars, cafés, eating establishments are or have been told to close. I was having lunch at a restaraunt last Monday and the place was almost deserted whereas normally it would have been buzzing. With the current travel restrictions happening here , there and everywhere, I'd be surprised if the movement restraints have been lifted before the beginning of April?

Australians need footy as a fillip in dark times.
There is nothing unsafe about playing footy.
Except for the travel bans we would be playing footy.
Footy is great.

So have a VFL season and big SANFL and WAFL seasons. SA players get divvied up among SANFL and wce and freo players get divvied up among WAFL clubs and lets get on with it.

It will have highest TV ratings ever!!!! You reckon Vics wouldn’t love their clubs doing a VFL season, they’d love it!!!!

Any reason why not given above afl reasoning?

So many reasons not too!

as much as I love my WANFL footy I'd much rather be alive to watch it once more - at this point there has to be a stop to sport
With the way this insidious disease is spreading , if we don't stop sport we may as well just bring back the Nazi gas chambers beacause it will just be the same result if there are crowds or maggots finding ways to flaunt regualtions

Stand the Test wrote: Dear TT, restricting yourself to AFL logic only give me one reason.

1. State League footballers, being part-time athletes, and working or studying away from football, aren't able to isolate as effectively as professional AFL athletes can.

2. The AFL is a $1B industry that employees 1000s of people across the country, and indirectly supports the employment of 1000s more.

The AFL, NRL and A -League all continued on with a strict set of conditions put in place, based on the advice they were given at the time by government and medical experts. All community and state league level competitions were suspended in these sports based on the government and medical experts advice received at that time.

The advice from the government and medical experts has changed - what's Gil responsible for?
