Anch: Stephan Michael used to take players out off the ball -- some of it was legal ie. within five metress of the ball, some of it was not within the rules. Today, he would get banned every second of week because you are not allowed 'to run passed the ball'

His play, of course was part of the reason that SF had such a great side.

I forgot Dargie -- he had a go at the Solins at East Fremantle Oval one day, in a sign that we just might be able to stand up against Old Easts in a way we had not the year before.

For me the dirtiest player without a shadow of a doubt would have to be Brian Adamson from West Perth. The bloke was an out and out thug.

What do you base that on? My memory of him was that he was built like a rifle pull through? Can't remember him being reported too much?

Gerry Neesham and Leigh Brenton - and I would have them wearing black and white rather than blue and white any day.

I would not perceive Stephen Michael a dirty footballer, but as so often happens, later in his career when he slowed down his timing was off and he hit up a few players late. His cleaning up of Keith Narkle In Michael's 200 (or was it 200 straight?) was not the best look for the champion.

Not sure that Devon Perry ever hit anyone from behind so bit unfair to call him anything other than hard

Dirty players _ Meirs for his hit from behind on Russell Sparks is the most cowardly thing I ever saw, Trizzie Lawrence for ankle taps, Heatleys hit in Barnard in a pack when no one was looking.

That sums it up mate - it's why I used to the term Brutal streak , Devan Perry wasn't shy on swinging arms at the bottom of congested packs , ask a few of the Claremont lads who came up against him ;)

Jeez they were hard clashes between the Tiges and Royals in the mid to late nineties with a lot of spite that spilled over in the epic 96 grand final. Ask Devon if his head is still ringing from Brendan Green giving it a little tap one arvo

DW bulldog Shine use to tackle players and punch them in the stomach as a part of his tackling style. But copped as good as he got.

SH: I agree with you on Stephan Michael. He never raissed an elbow ever, but he did take some players out unfairly
