While i dont doubt there were some horrible events in the past 200 years regarding treatment of Indigenous Australians, can any of them really say they would prefer things went back to what they were before the first fleet?

There are still plenty of opportunities to live that way if you actually believe, but better hand back all the white oppressor luxuries like your phone, car and beer.

Land has been colonized and wars fought since the beginning of the human race, things could have turned out to be a lot worse. Imagine if some of our northern neighbors had got here first. Do you think the indigenous population would have be given anything under communist rule?

Exactly Mcbob. It all seems to be a storm in a teacup.

One day we will stop celebrating 8 May 1945 because it offends the ethnic Germans in Australians.

About time we awaited for :
North America Invasion Day
South America Invasion Day
Roman Conquests Invasion Days
1066 Battle at Hastings Invasion Day
Viking Invasion Days
Greek Empire Invasion Days
South African Invasion Days.
Soon it will be Moon invasion Day
PS: hope the Fremantle (& eastern States) Councils who oppose Jan 29 holiday work on that day & refuse to take overtime pay as they dont recognize it as a LEGAL public holiday.
Sick of these whinging pricks also going on about refugees. If they want them here then take them in for TWO years as boarders in their homes as UNPAID helpers.

That's a very good point about the public holiday LS...I hope all those who are fervently against Oz Day on the 26th including the councillors of the Cities of Freo and Yarra go to work on the public holiday otherwise they are seriously compromised.

Australia day in its current form has been celebrated on the 26th January since 1994, thats a long standing tradition eh? Like most people I don't give a toss on when the day occurs and if its going to bring Aboriginal people on board, lets put it on another day for Goodness sake. I just don't understand old men puffing their chests out talking about heresy or left wing conspiracies when the day is not a long standing tradition on the level of ANZAC day.

There’s 25 mil people in Aussie ffs so this is in no way an indicative slice of Australian opinion. Also, where was the poll taken? In a heavy Muzo populated area, Aboriginals only, Sarah dickwit,s backyard? Take a look around on the 26th, just about everyone from school kids to pensioners are wearing Aussie gear or just simply celebrating the day. It’s just another rigged poll by the fkwits of the world. Like others I’m sick of this minority group trying to change our great countries traditions. Perhaps we all should check our birth dates in case they insult some fucker!!!

Jai yenyen na (ใจเย็นๆ) - look it up 58.

You'll do yourself a damage otherwise. :)

That's a typical response from today's generation mike. If you're in your 60's, you're just a silly old man with no idea. It doesn't matter that you feel strongly about it - "you're not entitled to an opinion unless it agrees with mine".

Where the hell did I say you're not entitled to your opinion??. I'm entitled to mine and I am in my 60's as well. You know what they say, opinions are like arseholes, everyones got one and they are all different.

Where would the indigenous culture be now if "white man" hadn't shown up? No change im guessing.
35,000 years of no forward development? Pedophilia rife? Life expectancy, mid 30s?

Its called progress, has been happening since the beginning of the human race.

Admit the faults of the past (done), ensure it isn't repeated (done) and move forward together (done, until Australia days comes round every year)

where would the black fellas be without white man showing up? exactly where they were for the previous 30,000 years...probably nomadic, living off the land, practicing their own culture and particularly happy with their lot in life. In saying that, if it wasn't the poms inhabiting this country then I'm sure it would have been someone else eventually so I don't think much would have been different.

LaFrance would have taken over the place and there would have been a lot more massacres. In fact, the French were still massacring people in their hundrds in places, such as Madagascar and Algeria, into the 1940s.
