Spot on and this should take precedent over minority country hicks

So you think that if the MAJORITY of WEST AUSTRALIANS don't think along your lines that they should be overruled by the MINORITY? Simply because you have a private agenda? So you boys that are "Perth Whingers", learn to live with what we have and stop criticising people that have an opposing view. As for your comment about "country hicks", what a small minded, bigoted and pompous person you must be Swandog. I thought better of you, but once again I was wrong!!!!

I used Country hicks as a colloquial term 58, WA is commonly referred to as Hicksville in an endearing fashion. But I do know a few city dwellars from the sticks stuck in the past. Western Australia needs to get with the test of the world that has Daylight savings! They use the term summertime, and not just cold European countries like our expert Baz reckons!

well said grassy and others: most locally born WA people will never vote for it; if there is ever another referendum, it should be written into the statute to enable the referendum, that, should the result be 'no' for a sixth time, the DLS issue should never be broached again by the WA Parliament.

WA QLD and NT don't have it or want it because they don't need it, the warmer climates are fine without it, cooler southern states have it, it suits them - good on them but not us.

BTW, both parties have agreed there will be no more experiments or referendums for at least 20 years.

MarkOlsen wrote: Take no notice of polls.
If you look at who did and didn't vote for if there is an increase in coastal living it will influence the vote.
Coastal population increases by 10% you will have a swing to more voting for it and development is geared towards the coast.

Perhaps you should take notice of the polls the count the ref. results - and DL losses.

So there's no development out Midland Ellenbrook and Forrestfield way ??? houses a plenty...yeah a few apartments are going in along the coast, but bugger all compared to infill around the outter suburbs, if anything the coastal sprawl will start easing. and even then 10% wouldn't get it up with only 40% supporting it.

AR perhaps you might like to reconsider the above. The exquisite irony of legislating to prevent further legislation is highly amusing.

swan42: I do admit that it is very irregular. Although, I seem to remember reading that parts of WA's constitution were only 'entrenched' by referendum following an act of parliament in the 1970s. In other words, the statute bound future parliaments to act in a certain manner in its treatment of key bits of WA's constitution; through the act, in short, the WA parliament votted away its powers to change key parts of the constitution especially in relation to the Crown.

The climate is a rubbish and unfounded argument, middle Eastern countries hotter than here have had it for ever! #curtainsfadebrigade

SD: Is that because in the Middle East they have shorter days than we do?

The argument Bazza put forward was it was a climate thing, Longer days don't affect anyone negatively, children still sleep, cows milk and curtain retain their colour.
Its some old fuddie duddies in this state stuck in the 50's generally against it, once they all die off we will have it for definate as if is you polled anyone under 50 it would win hands down!
I'm locally born here and my parents in their Mid and late 70's loved it when it came back, but thats because they are European born who are generally more progressive and open minded than some of the average born here people from the sticks
