Boys, we will be ok, we have a bloody good knack of knocking off fully blown alignment sides, lets hope it continues. Examples being-

Peel on many occasions.
SF in the 1999 GF.
EP in the 2013 GF.
EP in the 2015 Prelim.

Leedy good one -- in 1974 you even helpped Subi out by knocking South out of the four; it was the final qualifying game of the season, at Fremantle, and WP were in last position on the ladder. A great effort by the red and the blue. We got beaten by SD in the first semi a week later.

good luck on the week-end.

Email I have sent to the WAFC.

Hi, could you please forward this on to the appropriate person. I am wanting to know what the rules were/are for the two WAFL clubs Peel and East Perth who are aligned with Fremantle and West Coast in regards to how many of these AFL listed players can play in their WAFL aligned LEAGUE team?

Obviously this is a topic of debate lately with Peel and EP competing in the WAFL finals series. I seem to recall when this alignment was first drawn up that there would be a maximum of 12 AFL listed players allowed to play for their WAFL clubs league side at any one time to be fair to the other WAFL clubs. It would seem unfair to allow Peel for instance to pick up to 20 players I think I have read that are "eligible" to play for Peel in the finals.

Will let you know their response. ;)

Reply from Cameron Knapton;

Please be advised that we have never had restrictions on how many AFL players can be selected in WAFL games or finals.

For Finals AFL players must play 5 WAFL games to be eligible.

Peel have 22 players who have qualified under this rule but have some on the injured list, they played 17 on the weekend

I'm waiting for my latest reply. So in effect Peel could have its entire side made up of Fremantle players if all were available. That surely is a FARCE.

Interesting stuff DD...I went clambering through the WAFL Rules and Regulations document and there is no reference to the maximum number of AFL players that the Aligned clubs can play....
Keep us informed, good work.

So what he is saying is if they had the 22 players fit and available they would play the 22 ??

WTF type of scam is this ??

DD well done. I hope that the above doesn't go the same way as the comments of a former employee at the WAFC who was more that a little reticent in having his own words (uncensored and unexpurgated) from appearing on this forum.

I know the original idea was for 8 or 9. And a limit per match was also going to be considered. But as we've clearly seen, and reading the response to the e-mail, those numbers have gone out the bloody window!

It is why the clubs must ensure there is some sort of limitation on the number in one team put into the next alignment agreement -- should there be one in the future. Further on the alignment rules, I am sure that, according to the agreement, any alignment club, should it finish below third, is entitlled to recruit. If I am right, keep an eye out for EP over the summer.
