Given that Essendon can top up their list with around 10 players in the wake of the drug bans, the first place they would be looking at would be recently delisted players. Some names that come to mind here are Ryan Crowley, Robbie Warnock, Jordie Mckenzie and Murray Newman. I wonder if any of these guys will be in the frame? I suppose it depends on Essendons assessment of the types of players they need. Would be ironical if Crowley went to the Bombers given he has just come off a drug ban himself.

Clint Jones played as a top-up player last year so they may look at him and Watson from East Fremantle.

would be plenty of state league players putting their hand up no doubt, not much good for the clubs that lose a player though.

Perth people wont be happy but I wonder if Tropiano would get a look ?

Why would Woosha turn to has beens in this situation. Go with young kids and they just might find a few.for the future. The season is already stuffed so look to the future. Tropiana would be one worth looking at as stated previously. Obviously can play so here is a nothing to lose opportunity to look at players like him who have just missed out at the draft. Will give these players an opportunity to impress and put their hands up to be drafted in 2017. I'm sure many who had the door shut in their face would jump at the chance

Be interested which players will be targeted....from the WAFL : Watson (EF), Grimley (Subi), Broughton (Subi), Lockyer (Subi) Crowley (SD), Shaw (SF), White (Perth), Jones (Perth), Hardisty (Cl),Abbott (Cl), Walsh (Peel) and Duffy (WP) would be in the reckoning....gutting for EF if Watson goes, but can't blame any of them for going TBH....

plus others from the VFL would be Lisle, Warnock, Polkinghorne spring to mind plus others from the SANFL I guess.....

I want to know what compensation will WAFL clubs get for players taken by Essendon and who should pay?
The AFL? The WAFC? or better still perhaps Essendon should pay?

It's a problem created by Essendung so it's their responsibility to pay for any short term recruits. I bet the standard draft fee wont be applied as I'm sure all will only be offered a 12 month contract. Maybe if they then decide to extend the contract then the balance will be paid ad per the std draft rules. Still leaves any affected WAFL/SANFL/VFL clubs with a hole in their lists. Hopefully all local clubs have water tight contracts for their A graders.

yep..agree grassy. this is not your average drafting of players where WAFL clubs just accept their fate...given its a one off for 12 months i'm hoping my club stands on its digs and asks for adequate compensation for any contracted player taken by the Bummers or conversely tells Essendone to pi$$ off.

Of course this is on the presumption Wafl players would wish to go there? Or wouldn't they have a say in the matter of staying with their Wafl club?

yes...they sure would wag...but a young bloke might like the opportunity to have a crack at AFL even if for only 1 year in the hope it turns into something longer term...but would you want to completely turn your current life upside down and go to essendon with the knowledge you're only a second rate "top up"? dunno...

Essenbung will look at the list of last lot of draft nominees for starters and approach blokes who missed the cut perhaps, plus look at established players who believe they should be getting an AFL gurnsey like Tropiano. I think he will be the most likely mature age target as he has said he'd bust a gut for a chance and the big dance. from Subi's pov, recent delisted players like Lockyer who had a stellar season in '15 would be in the crosshairs and there are many others like Crowley from other clubs that could be listed, but as has been said they have to want to go so a decent carrot would need to be dangled.
