Disappointing for SD though especially with Davis gone and more than likely to play the odd game at GC....especially if Omeara, Swallow, Ablett and Prestia will be back in the 22. Crowley was also gonna do some coaching as well, double blow for SD. As for compensation?.....not sure anyone will get anything, we are talking about the AFL here!

That would be a lot easier than giving the keys back to a shiny new Jeep and household full of white goods. Grimley might soon find himself in that situation.

I dont see this as a blow or a loss as he never pulled on our famous jumper, rather give one of our abundance of talented locals a gig, something $ubi struggle to do

True Swandog, but I guess its what SD youngsters wont get now over the course of the season from Crowleys on field and off field presence is what I mean by a blow......dont doubt SD young talent but Crowley would of been a fantastic mentor for them in terms of preparation, training etc......188 games of AFL experience is something very few WAFL clubs can afford to lose TBH......fark I hope Wiley can convince McPharlin to play if Essendon sign up Matt Watson....

I'd rather win Premierships, something Swans struggle (without necking a box of Sudafed) to do.

We never lost 188 games of experience because he never played a game, and I back Greg Harding and co to give the boys all the mentoring and more that Crowley could have given..rather lose Crowley than Ames, Simpson, G.Jetta, Howard and co!

SD not often I am on Freezin's side but I think it is a very significant loss in terms of the development of our younger players not they won't have the benefit of his experience.

Another reason to treat with complete and utter contempt the AFL, Essendon and James Hird. Tom B should be sending a bill to Essendon and the AFL to recompense Swans for the salary we have paid Crowley for his playing salary thus far.

I can't wait to see Messrs Walton, McHenry et al to tell the AFL that the compensation player for each WAFL player lost should be at least $200,00 per season to be paid completely to the WAFL club(s). I won't hold my breath though. Going on their track record thus far I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't suggest that Swans should pay Essendon.

I don't mean to sound rude with my response guys, but the WAFL is a feeder comp, which means the job of clubs below the AFL (i.e. the WAFL) is to feed players and coaches to the AFL.

Lets face facts im sure today Swans are already scouting their zones and the rest of the metro area for options on players or a replacement coach, and I bet if they grab someone from a local A grade club there will be no compensation the other way from Swans downwards, because the clubs below them (WAFL clubs) are feeder clubs to WAFL.

Vicious cycle but that's the way it is.

disagree ph...imo my club Subi's number 1 priority is to win flags for its players, staff, supporters and sponsors. if along the way young blokes get a chance at the next level then that's all well and good but I will never accept that the WAFL's primary responsibility is to be a feeder competition for the AFL nor is it just a breeding ground for the next generation of AFL players. if that was the case then WAFL premierships would be awarded to the club with the most draftees each year and East Freo would have won just about every premeirship since the 80's. also if the WAFL was just a feeder then they could do away with league and ressies and just have an under 21 comp only which links directly into the AFL.
